The Lions get another crack at the NFC North in Week 8, and this one comes with a very different challenge. After their thrilling Week 7 win over the Green Bay Packers, Detroit now turns to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings for a Sunday matchup at 1 p.m.
It’s a clash of strengths the Lions haven’t quite seen yet. Minnesota has not faced an offense like Detroit’s, and Detroit hasn’t been tested by a defense like Minnesota’s. That’s the backdrop for a game that should tell us plenty about both teams.
Dan Campbell didn’t exactly hide his respect for the Vikings when he broke them down this week. “Minnesota, playing outstanding football,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
“Kevin’s (O’Connell) doing a hell of a job. Brian’s (Flores) is doing a hell of a job.
You know this thing, they play very complementary football. Everything is fueled by this defense.
That’s the starting point. This defense is good as it gets.
They fly around the football. They’re smart.
I think eight out of these 11 starters, for the most part, are veteran guys, are seven years or older, and they’ve been in this system with Flores. The versatility between (Blake) Cashman and (Andrew) Van Ginkel and (Josh) Metellus and Harrison (Smith) and (Eric) Wilson just allows them to do a lot.
Dallas Turner on the perimeter, (Jalen) Redmond in the middle, among others; they work well together. Obviously, the corners outside there, (Byron) Murphy and (Isaiah) Rodgers, and they roll those other ones.
They understand the system. They understand where they are going to exploit you at, and then where you’re trying to, ok this is where my outlet is.
They take that away, too. So they exploit you and then take away your outlet.
They’re very good at it. They create havoc and chaos.
Inevitably, what they want and have done consistently is they force you to make massive errors. It’s one thing to get stops.
They are forcing offenses at the end of the day; it gets late, this is a tight game, and it’s just wave after wave, and these offenses are cracking significantly. Turnovers, massive turnovers.
So it’s third and 32, and that’s where they want you, way behind the sticks. Poise is going to be big for us.
Poise, patience.”
That’s the test for Detroit: stay composed, avoid the big mistake, and handle the pressure Minnesota likes to pile on. The Lions’ staff is weighing how this one plays out, and the Week 8 picks are in from Pride of Detroit.

Lions Win Took A Back Seat To One Frightening Jack Campbell Scene
Detroits 19-15 win over Minnesota came with the kind of unease that can linger long after the final whistle. The Lions had already been dealing with injuries on defense during the game, but the biggest concern arrived in the fourth quarter when linebacker Jack Campbell went down and the mood inside the stadium shifted immediately.
Campbell was hurt on a tackle attempt and remained on the turf for an extended stretch before being helped off the field on a stretcher. He was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, turning a hard-fought divisional victory into a night the Lions will remember for far more than the result. [Read more 🡒]
Lions Face Early Trouble In A Game That Could Shake Up NFC North
Week 8 in the NFC North came with a little extra weight for Detroit, and the first quarter against Minnesota already had the feel of a game that could matter long after Sunday. The Vikings got the opening kickoff and immediately had a chance to set the tone, while the Lions answered with some early movement of their own, including a third-down conversion from Amon-Ra St. Brown before the offense ran into a choppy stretch.
The opening frame never settled in for either side, with penalties and missed field goals helping turn what should have been a clean division showdown into a stop-start grind. Detroit needed a steady hand to keep pace in a game with first-place implications, but the early rhythm kept getting interrupted, leaving plenty of tension on the field and even more riding on how the rest of the afternoon would unfold. Lions Fans Are Already Buzzing About Ford Fields New Food Stand
Ford Fields latest concession addition arrived with a distinctly Detroit flavor on Oct. 25, when Moms Spaghetti made its debut at the Lions game. Inspired by Eminems Lose Yourself, the restaurants food stand brought spaghetti and meatballs, along with the Sghetti sandwich, into the stadium mix through a partnership with Levy, Ford Fields food and beverage partner.
The stand is set to travel with the Lions again for the game in Munich, Germany, giving the team another local touchpoint far from home. It also comes with a community-minded angle, since the volunteer staff working the stand benefits various organizations, which fits neatly with the kind of neighborhood feel the Lions have tried to build around their home games.
