The Detroit Lions have their initial 53-man roster in place for 2026, and the group is built around the same kind of core the team expects to lean on as it tries to bring home the Lombardi in 2026.
This is not the last version of the roster. Detroit can still add players, build out the practice squad, and shift pieces around injury lists. But for now, these are the 53 players who made the first cut.
At quarterback, Jared Goff and Josh Dobbs are on the roster.
The backfield brings five running backs: Jahmyr Gibbs, Isiah Pacheco, Sione Vaki, Jacob Saylors, and Jabari Small.
At receiver, the Lions kept four players: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa, and Tay Martin. Tight end features Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, and Jackson Meeks.
Up front, Detroit is carrying nine offensive linemen. Cade Mays is on IR to return, while Giovanni Manu is on the Non-Football Injury/reserve list. The active group includes Penei Sewell, Christian Mahogany, Juice Scruggs, Tate Ratledge, Blake Miller, Larry Borom, Miles Frazier, Ben Bartch, and Seth McLaughlin.
The defensive line includes five players: Alim McNeill, Tyleik Williams, Levi Onwuzurike, Skyler Gill-Howard, and Mekhi Wingo.
On the edge, the Lions kept Aidan Hutchinson, DJ Wonnum, Tyler Lacy, Derrick Moore, Ahmed Hassanein, and Eric O’Neill.
Linebacker has six names: Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, Devin White, Malcolm Rodriguez, Jimmy Rolder, and Trevor Nowaske.
The cornerback group includes D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, Ennis Rakestraw, Keith Abney, Roger McCreary, and Khalil Dorsey.
Safety is the one spot with some notable list movement. Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch are on the PUP/reserve list, while Avonte Maddox, Chuck Clark, Christian Izien, and Thomas Harper are on the active roster.
Detroit’s specialists are Jack Fox at punter, Jake Bates at kicker, and Hogan Hatten at long snapper.
