Jared Goff has already built one of the NFL’s steadiest active runs, and there’s a real chance he keeps adding to it this season.
The Lions quarterback has thrown a touchdown pass in 23 straight games, a streak that began with the Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 13 of the 2024 season. He has posted multiple touchdown passes in 15 of those games, and with a soft schedule ahead, he’s set up to keep the run alive for a while.
That streak already puts Goff in notable company. If he throws a touchdown pass in each of the first nine games this season, he would own a top-10 streak in league history. If he manages one in every game this year, the run would climb to 40 straight games with a touchdown pass, which would rank sixth all time.
Even that kind of season-long pace would still leave him short of Drew Brees. Brees owns the NFL record with 54 consecutive games with a touchdown pass, and he also had another streak of 45 straight games in that category, the fifth-longest ever. One game without a touchdown pass on a short week in November of 2012 is what stopped Brees from pushing that streak all the way to 100 straight games.
Goff is not likely to touch that record. Still, he has already stacked up plenty of production over the last four seasons, leading the NFL in passing touchdowns and passing yards in that span while being in some select company as a fantasy signal caller.
His durability has been part of the story, too. Goff hasn’t missed a start since Week 17 of the 2021 season, his first year in Detroit.
That gives him 69 straight regular-season starts and 73 straight when the playoffs are included. It’s a strong run in Lions terms, though still far from Brett Favre’s all-time mark and well behind Josh Allen’s current quarterback record of 122 straight starts.
In a recent look at 10 notable NFL streaks entering the 2026 season, including Allen’s consecutive-starts run, Eva Geitheim of SI.com pointed out Goff’s longest active streak in another area.
And history suggests the Lions know exactly when a streak is worth protecting. They’ve shown awareness of players with records in play, incentives attached to stats, and other milestones on the line. That makes it fair to expect Detroit to keep doing what it can to help Goff extend a run that already has him moving deeper into the league’s record books.
