Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell offered his first public update Wednesday since the neck injury he suffered against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and the message was encouraging.
In a statement released by the Lions, Campbell said he has “full movement” in his lower body and is “progressing with movement” in his upper body. He also took time to thank the people who have supported him since the injury, saying, “My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days. It means more to us than words can express,”
Campbell added that he is “incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time” and said, “I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
He also pointed to his faith as a source of strength. “My faith in God has never been stronger.
I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.”
Campbell made sure to recognize the medical staff who helped him on the field and at the hospital. “I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field.
I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
He also praised the care he received at Henry Ford Hospital and from the Lions’ medical staff. “I also can’t say enough about the incredible care I’ve received from the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions medical staff. They’ve been amazing to me and my family throughout this process, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done.”
Campbell closed by thanking his teammates, coaches and the organization, saying, “To my teammates, coaches, and everyone in the Lions organization, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you. This team is a family to me, and the way everyone has been there for me means everything. I’m proud to be a Detroit Lion and couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.”
He also connected his recovery to the city around him: “One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge.”
The post drew a huge response almost immediately, with the Lions’ message collecting more than 14,000 likes, thousands of reposts and hundreds of comments in less than half an hour. Fans flooded the replies with support for the Pro Bowl linebacker, including messages like, “On behalf of everyone in Detroit: We love you Jack!”
and “Thank you lord. Detroit loves you Jack.
Wishing for a full and speedy recovery!”
Others kept the focus on his recovery and the bigger picture. “Will continue to pray for progress.
Stay strong Jack. The NFL world is rooting for you,” one fan wrote.
Another said, “Wishing you a speedy recovery. Some things are so much bigger than football.
We are all with you.” A fifth comment read, “This is such great news to see.
Positive thoughts coming your way from Minnesota.”
Campbell’s injury came on a tackle against Minnesota on Sunday. Last season, he earned his first Pro Bowl nod and was named First-Team All-Pro after piling up 176 combined tackles, 5.0 sacks, nine tackles for loss, five QB hits, four passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Lions Face A Brad Holmes Question After Jack Campbell Scare
Jack Campbells injury has left the Lions with a sudden hole in the middle of their defense, and the timing could hardly be worse. With the trade deadline approaching, Detroit suddenly has a roster issue that goes beyond simple depth, because Campbell had been a key piece of the linebacker group and now is unavailable for the foreseeable future.
For Brad Holmes, the question is whether this is the kind of moment that nudges him toward a move he usually prefers not to make. The Lions have generally been cautious about big deadline swings, but the latest reporting points to linebacker help as a real possibility, with cornerback reinforcements also on the table as Detroit weighs how to steady the defense without its injured starter. Lions Injuries Just Put Unexpected Pressure On Two Key Defensive Groups
Injuries have started to squeeze Detroit in a few places at once, and the timing is especially awkward for a defense that has already had to manage moving parts this season. The Lions listed Cade Mays, DJ Wonnum, Jack Campbell, D.J. Reed, Jacob Saylors, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Amen Ogbongbemiga, Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch among the players who were unable to practice or were limited, leaving the staff to sort through a crowded report before the next game.
The biggest concern sits in the middle and back end of the defense, where linebacker and safety depth can disappear quickly if availability keeps trending the wrong way. Kerby Joseph is already out for this week, and Jack Campbell is also unlikely to play, which raises the stakes for the next wave of defenders who may have to absorb more snaps and more responsibility in a hurry. Jameson Williams Turned A Costly Lions Mistake Into Something Fans Need To See
The Lions latest Sights and Sounds release from their 19-15 win over the Vikings gives fans a close-up look at one of the more dramatic swings from Sundays finish. Jameson Williams is at the center of it, with the micd up footage capturing the kind of sideline-and-field tension that comes with a tight fourth-quarter game, plus the coaching staffs immediate effort to keep him locked in after a costly mistake.
What makes the video worth watching is the way it shows the human side of a player response in real time. Williams had to shake off the frustration of that penalty and stay ready for the next snap, and the Lions staff made sure he knew it. The payoff came later in the same drive, turning a rough moment into the kind of sequence that sticks with a team long after the final whistle. [Read more 🡒]
