Green Bay left its 20-17 overtime win over the New York Jets with one encouraging update and one troubling one.
After the game, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said wide receiver Jayden Reed had movement in all his extremities and would remain overnight for observation. That was the clearest bit of relief in a situation that looked frightening on the field.
"I just wanted to give you guys an update, Jayden Reed, he's got movement in all his extremities. He will be staying overnight," LaFleur said, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
He added, "That was just obviously a very scary deal. Anytime you see anybody down on the field and have to get carted off."
Reed was injured on the second play of the game and appeared to go limp as he hit the turf. Packers players gathered around him right away, and the FOX broadcast went to commercial twice while the cart and medical personnel came out to assist him.
The injury comes at a rough time for a Packers receiving group that has already had trouble getting Reed, Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, and Christian Watson on the field together for many snaps.
The schedule does Green Bay no favors, either. The Packers are on a short week and will host the Atlanta Falcons for Thursday Night Football on Sept. 24.
LaFleur also delivered a much less optimistic update on Zach Tom, saying, "An update on Zach Tom, that doesn't look good either as far as you know, I think he could be out for a long time."
Tom was immediately ruled out with a knee injury, and it appeared to be non-contact, the kind of play that usually raises alarm fast. LaFleur's comments pointed toward a long absence, which is the last thing this battered offensive line needed.
Tom, who changed his last name to Bako-Bewele ahead of the 2026 season, was the Packers fourth round draft pick in 2022.
MetLife Stadium, once again, may have claimed another victim.
