The Detroit Lions have bolstered their receiving lineup with a familiar face for their new offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing. On Wednesday, they signed free agent wide receiver and return specialist Greg Dortch to a one-year deal, adding depth and experience to their roster.
Dortch, 27, reunites with Petzing, having spent the past five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, including three under Petzing's guidance. This connection was a significant factor in Dortch's decision to join the Lions.
"The comfort and trust I have with Drew, along with our past success, made the choice clear," Dortch shared. With Kalif Raymond moving on to the Chicago Bears, Dortch saw an opportunity to step in and contribute.
In Detroit, Dortch is expected to vie for the No. 4 receiver spot, working alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa. Additionally, he might take over return duties, filling the gap left by Raymond's departure.
Dortch's NFL journey began with the New York Jets, and he made stops with three other teams before finding a home with the Cardinals in 2021. Over five seasons in Arizona, Dortch racked up 145 receptions for 1,310 yards.
His standout year came in 2022 with 52 catches for 467 yards. Last season, he added 29 receptions for 206 yards before being sidelined by a chest injury for the final five games.
Reflecting on his move to Detroit, Dortch said, "The Lions' culture of grit and toughness resonates with me. It's a perfect match for my journey and who I am." With this signing, the Lions are not just gaining a player but someone whose ethos aligns with the team's spirit.
