The Detroit Lions are making moves to bolster their offensive line, and they've just added a key piece. On the first day of the 2026 NFL free agency, the Lions reached an agreement with offensive lineman Larry Borom, previously with the Miami Dolphins.
Borom, a local talent from Birmingham Brother Rice and a standout on the Free Press' first-team All-North in 2016, brings experience and versatility. He started 11 games at right tackle for the Dolphins last season and has been a reliable part-time starter over the past five years with both the Dolphins and the Chicago Bears.
The Lions aren't stopping there. They also secured a three-year deal with center Cade Mays, signaling a clear intent to revamp their front line.
Last season, the Lions faced challenges with their offensive line, prompting a shuffle in personnel. In a strategic move, they released veteran interior lineman Graham Glasgow to manage costs, and left tackle Taylor Decker requested his release following salary discussions.
Borom, who will soon turn 27, has primarily played at right tackle. His presence could allow the Lions to shift All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell to the left side, filling the gap left by Decker.
However, it's not all additions for the Lions. They also saw two defensive starters depart in free agency. Alex Anzalone is heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year deal, while Amik Robertson will suit up for the Washington Commanders next season.
The Lions are clearly focused on strengthening their lineup for the upcoming season, with these moves setting the stage for potentially significant changes on both sides of the ball.
