Detroit Lions Re-Sign Veteran Defender for a Mysterious New Role

The Detroit Lions bolster their defensive line depth by re-signing versatile veteran Myles Adams, aiming to enhance their roster amid ongoing positional challenges.

The Detroit Lions have made a strategic move by re-signing veteran defensive tackle Myles Adams. While the details of the contract remain under wraps, this decision signals the Lions' commitment to bolstering their defensive line.

Adams, at 28, is gearing up for his sixth NFL season. His journey began with the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent three and a half years. During his time there, he played in 26 games, starting one, and logged 346 total snaps.

The Lions first brought Adams on board in 2024, pulling him from the Seahawks’ practice squad to address injury woes on their defense. In his brief stint that season, Adams made his presence felt in four games, contributing 46 defensive snaps, four tackles, a sack, and two QB hits.

Despite not making the 53-man roster last year, Adams stayed with the Lions on the practice squad, ready to step up when needed. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 299 pounds, he fits the mold of a versatile player, able to shift between defensive tackle and edge defender roles.

As things stand, Adams is likely to serve as a backup, lining up behind players like Levi Onwuzurike, Mekhi Wingo, and Tyler Lacy. However, the Lions still have some gaps to fill on their defensive line.

The edge position remains a concern, despite the addition of D.J. Wonnum in free agency.

With DJ Reader yet to sign and Roy Lopez moving to the Cardinals, there’s a need for more depth at nose tackle, beyond Tyleik Williams and occasionally Alim McNeill.

For the Lions, this re-signing is about depth and readiness, ensuring they have the pieces in place to adapt and respond throughout the season.
