Brad Holmes Stuns as Two Top Centers Suddenly Become Available

Brad Holmes has prime opportunities to bolster the Lions' offensive line with recent center releases, each offering both risks and rewards.

It looks like the Detroit Lions, under the guidance of Brad Holmes, have some intriguing options on the horizon for solidifying their center position through free agency. Recently, two prime candidates have become available: Lloyd Cushenberry, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, and Tyler Biadasz, who was with the Washington Commanders.

Cushenberry's release came after a failed physical, which helped the Titans free up $7.1 million in cap space. This move presents a bit of a gamble for the Lions, considering their current depth issues are already marred by injuries. However, at just 29 years old, Cushenberry offers starting experience that could be valuable if the Lions are willing to take the risk.

On the other hand, Biadasz's situation with the Commanders is a bit puzzling. Despite his recovery from a torn ACL, his release only saves Washington $2.8 million and leaves them with a significant $8.1 million in dead money.

His departure seems to coincide with some changes in Washington's lineup, including former Lions QB David Blough taking the reins of their offense. Biadasz, known for his reliability, could be an ideal fit for Detroit when free agency kicks off on March 9.

Biadasz's 2025 season stats are particularly enticing for a team like the Lions, who are eyeing contention. With a 67.1 pass blocking grade and a 71.2 run blocking grade, he ranked 12th among 40 eligible centers. This makes him a strong candidate for Detroit, potentially allowing them to temporarily shift Tate Ratledge to center until Biadasz is ready to return in 2026.

Additionally, the Lions have the option to explore the draft for talent. Prospects like Jake Slaughter, Sam Hecht, or Connor Lew are generating buzz and could be viable Day 2 or 3 picks. Alternatively, drafting a guard who can step in for Ratledge could also be on the table.

In essence, the Lions find themselves in a fortunate position with numerous opportunities to bolster their roster. This year's free agency and draft offer a wealth of options for addressing Detroit's key needs.
