That matters because the Lions are losing key veterans like linebacker Alex Anzalone and left tackle Taylor Decker, which means younger players will have to take on bigger roles. It makes 2026 feel like a pivotal season and, in some ways, a transitional one too. But even with those changes coming, the ceiling remains obvious because the star power is still there in a big way.
ESPN’s recent position-by-position rankings only reinforced that point. The network polled executives, coaches, and scouts around the league to sort out the top 10 players at each spot, and Detroit finished with nine players landing inside those lists.
That’s not just strong. That’s a roster with elite talent stacked all over it.
At the front of the line is Penei Sewell, who came in as the top-ranked tackle. Jahmyr Gibbs also cracked the upper tier, ranking as the second-best running back. Put those names together with the rest of the group, and the picture is pretty clear: the Lions have All-Pro-level talent spread across the field.
So when the question is whether Detroit has the best top-end talent in the NFL, the answer is yes.
You can make a case for teams like the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs, sure. But the Lions’ advantage is how young this core is.
A lot of those stars are 25 years old and under, which only makes the whole thing more impressive. The talent is already elite, and there’s still room for it to grow.
