Sunday’s matchup between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies has officially been postponed due to severe winter weather sweeping through the Memphis area, the NBA confirmed.
A new date for the game hasn’t been set yet, but the league has made it clear that the postponement is strictly weather-related. The storm system, which began hammering large portions of North America on Saturday night, has disrupted travel and operations across multiple cities-and the NBA is feeling the ripple effects.
Memphis isn’t the only city dealing with complications. The Dallas Mavericks, who were scheduled to fly to Milwaukee after their Saturday night game against the Lakers, have been grounded in Dallas due to the same weather system.
According to reports, the Mavericks are still sitting on the team plane awaiting clearance to take off, with tipoff against the Bucks scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT.
That game’s status is now up in the air as well, depending on whether the team can get out in time.
This kind of disruption isn’t common in the NBA schedule, but when Mother Nature takes over, flexibility becomes the name of the game. Teams, players, and league officials will have to adjust on the fly-literally and figuratively-until the skies clear and travel becomes safe again.
For now, the Nuggets and Grizzlies will have to wait for their rematch, and the Mavericks are in a holding pattern. The league will continue monitoring the situation, and more schedule changes could be on the horizon if the storm continues to wreak havoc.
