Nuggets-Grizzlies Game Postponed Due to Winter Storm in Memphis
What was supposed to be a Sunday afternoon showdown between the Denver Nuggets and the Memphis Grizzlies has officially been postponed due to severe winter weather conditions in the Memphis area. The NBA made the call to delay the game at FedExForum, citing safety concerns stemming from the ongoing storm system sweeping across parts of the country.
The league released a statement confirming the decision:
“Jan.
25, 2026 - The National Basketball Association game scheduled for today between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum has been postponed due to inclement weather in the Memphis area. The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time.”
No makeup date has been set, and based on both teams’ upcoming schedules, it may be a while before the league finds a window that works for both sides. Memphis is already slated to face the Houston Rockets on Monday, making a quick turnaround unlikely. And with the Nuggets and Grizzlies not sharing many open dates in the near future, this rescheduled matchup could be pushed further down the calendar.
From a basketball standpoint, the postponement adds an interesting wrinkle for both squads.
For Memphis, the extra day gives them a bit more breathing room ahead of Monday’s tilt with Houston - a game that suddenly carries more weight as the Grizzlies look to stop the bleeding from a two-game skid. The team continues to feel the absence of Ja Morant, who remains sidelined with an elbow injury. His status has also been the subject of ongoing trade chatter, and while nothing has materialized yet, the noise around the star guard hasn’t quieted.
Denver, on the other hand, has been trending in the opposite direction. Riding a two-game win streak and sitting third in the Western Conference, the Nuggets have looked every bit like a team ready to make another deep postseason run. Their next test comes Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons, and while the postponement disrupts their rhythm slightly, it also gives them a little extra rest before heading into that matchup.
So while fans missed out on a compelling Western Conference battle this weekend, the league’s decision was the right one given the circumstances. Safety comes first - and when the snow clears, we’ll get the Nuggets vs.
Grizzlies matchup we’ve been waiting for. Just not today.
