The Atlanta Hawks are set to celebrate a unique piece of their city's culture during their March 16 home game against the Orlando Magic. They're shining a spotlight on Magic City, a legendary Atlanta strip club that's intertwined with the city's cultural fabric.
While some might find this an unusual choice, those familiar with Atlanta know Magic City's deep roots in the local music and sports scenes. Since its founding in 1985, the club has been a hub for emerging artists and athletes alike. It's a place where music icons like Migos, Drake, and 2 Chainz have seen their tracks gain traction, thanks to DJs who champion new talent.
Quavo of Migos once credited the club for their rise, highlighting its influence in a documentary aired on STARZ. Magic City's reputation even reached the NBA bubble in 2020 when Lou Williams famously left for their renowned lemon pepper wings, affectionately named "LouWill Lemon Pepper BBQ" in his honor.
The club's allure isn't limited to the music industry. In 2018, Atlanta United players celebrated their MLS Cup victory there, and Shaquille O'Neal once delayed signing a massive contract with the Lakers due to a memorable night at the club.
The upcoming game will feature a halftime performance by Atlanta's own T.I., and DJ Esco will curate the pregame soundtrack. Jami Gertz, one of the Hawks' principal owners, will introduce a live recording of the “Hawks AF” podcast featuring T.I. and Magic City's founder, Michael “Big Magic” Barney.
Fans can also enjoy Magic City Kitchen's famous wings at the game and snag a limited-edition Peachtree-themed hoodie emblazoned with “Magic City.” It's a night that promises to blend basketball with a celebration of Atlanta's vibrant cultural scene.
