The Knicks made a roster call that caught plenty of attention over the weekend, waiving veteran guard Bruce Brown after a camp stint that had him in the mix for one of the team’s final spots.
Brown, who won an NBA title, had joined New York in training camp and quickly emerged as a serious option for the roster. The idea around the league was simple: if the Knicks could clear space, he looked like the kind of steady, useful veteran worth keeping. But that path required a move first, and the team couldn’t get one done in time.
“Bruce Brown has also put himself in good position to get roster spot, but Knicks would need to trade a rostered player to make that happen. Brown, in my opinion, would be a great value addition for the Knicks, giving them strong veteran depth in case of injury. ESPN reported Eubanks will be waived after suffering pectoral injury,” SNY’s Ian Begley posted.
Brown’s value is in the versatility. He can help in a lot of different ways, which is why reports had the Knicks exploring ways to open a lane for him to stick. That included trade discussions around the league as New York tried to sort out its own roster math.
“As the 2026-27 season draws near and teams contemplate roster spots, the Knicks and Lakers have both actively been exploring trade talks to move Pacome Dadiet and Dalton Knecht, respectively, sources told ClutchPoints,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.
With the Knicks set to open their season Tuesday night, the front office had to decide over the weekend, and Brown was the odd man out for now.
“The Knicks announce that they have waived veteran Bruce Brown. James Wiseman makes NY’s opening night roster, as Brown may fill the 15th spot later in December when contracts are prorated,” Siegel posted.
That doesn’t necessarily close the door. Brown could still circle back to New York later in the season if the roster picture changes. He’s earned a reputation as a player who will fit into whatever role is needed, and the Knicks may yet have a place for that kind of presence down the road.
For now, though, the combination of the second apron and the team’s need for another center forced a tough choice. The question now is whether Brown waits for a possible December return or lands elsewhere before then.

Marvin Bagley May Have Given Nuggets An Answer Behind Jokic
Marvin Bagley III had a preseason finale that gave Denver plenty to think about behind Nikola Jokic. In the matchup with the Lakers, the veteran big man looked comfortable off the bench, providing a mix of scoring and activity that stood out in a reserve role the Nuggets have been trying to shore up.
Bagley showed he can finish inside, stretch the floor a bit and bring real juice on the defensive end, where his athleticism showed up in the paint and in the passing lanes. For a Denver team that needs a dependable backup center, that kind of all-around burst is exactly the sort of answer it has been searching for, even if the true test still has to come when the games count. Nuggets Get A Needed Spencer Jones Update Before The Opener
Spencer Jones appears to be trending in the right direction just in time for the Nuggets season to begin, a welcome development for a team trying to get through the final stretch of camp with as few health concerns as possible. The forward had been dealing with a hamstring strain, and the latest word is that he is expected to be available when Denver opens the regular season.
Jones situation fits into a wider run of early injury news around the league, with several teams sorting through their own concerns before opening night. The Wizards have AJ Dybantsa day-to-day with an ankle sprain, the Suns are waiting on Luke Kennard after a knee tendon strain, and the Heat expect Bam Adebayo and Pelle Larsson to be ready for their opener, while the Magic are managing injuries for Franz Wagner and Noah Penda as they head toward theirs. For Denver, getting Jones back on track matters because every healthy body counts as the rotation starts to take shape. [Read more 🡒]
Nuggets Preseason Created A Real Depth Debate Fans Can't Ignore
The Nuggets spent the preseason sorting out a roster that still feels in flux, and a few names stood out in the process. Aaron Gordon looked like himself, Trevon Brazile made a strong case for a bigger role, and the teams offseason changes, including the trade of Peyton Watson, only sharpened the competition for minutes heading into the 2026-27 season.
Not everyone left camp in good shape, though, and that is where the real depth conversation begins for Denver. DaRon Holmes II and Zeke Nnaji had trouble turning preseason chances into momentum, leaving the Nuggets with more questions than answers about how the bottom of the rotation will shake out once the games start to count.
