Raiders Make Splash Coaching Hire

The Raiders are turning to a familiar face from Seattles staff as they reshape their offensive leadership under Klint Kubiak.

The coaching carousel keeps spinning, and this weekend brought a flurry of movement involving the Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders - two teams reshaping their identities under new leadership.

Just as word broke that the Seahawks are bringing in Brian Fleury - formerly the 49ers’ run game coordinator and tight ends coach - to take over as offensive coordinator, another key offensive mind is heading out the door. Quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko is expected to join the Raiders as their new offensive coordinator, reuniting with Klint Kubiak in Las Vegas.

Janocko’s move isn’t just a lateral shift - it’s a continuation of a long-running partnership with Kubiak that spans multiple teams and years. The two have worked side by side across three NFL franchises: New Orleans, Minnesota, and most recently Seattle. When Kubiak took over as Raiders head coach following Seattle’s Super Bowl victory, it didn’t take long for Janocko to become a top target for his new staff.

Their connection runs deep. In New Orleans, Kubiak served as offensive coordinator while Janocko handled quarterbacks.

Before that, they were part of the same coaching tree in Minnesota from 2019 to 2021 - including a 2021 season where Kubiak called plays as OC and Janocko coached the Vikings’ quarterbacks. That kind of continuity matters, especially when building a new offensive identity from the ground up.

Janocko, 37, has been steadily climbing the NFL coaching ranks for over a decade. His résumé includes stints in Tampa Bay (offensive quality control, 2012-13), Minnesota (2015-21), Chicago (quarterbacks coach, 2022-23), and most recently Seattle, where he joined the staff last February.

His departure comes after reportedly interviewing for the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator job last week, one of four internal candidates considered. The others included passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten, and tight ends coach Mack Brown.

While Janocko ultimately didn’t land the OC role in Seattle, his hiring by the Raiders signals a clear vote of confidence from Kubiak - a coach who knows exactly what Janocko brings to the table. Expect a system in Las Vegas that leans heavily on their shared offensive philosophy, with Janocko tasked with developing a quarterback room that’s still in flux.

The Raiders also cast a wide net during their coordinator search. In addition to Janocko, they interviewed Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson for the OC role. On the defensive side, they considered Seattle safeties coach Jeff Howard before promoting defensive line coach Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator.

As for the Seahawks, the hiring of Brian Fleury signals a shift toward a run-game-focused identity - no surprise given Fleury’s background in San Francisco’s ground-heavy, motion-based system. But with Janocko now heading to Vegas, Seattle’s offensive staff will have another key position to fill as they prepare for a new era post-Super Bowl.

One thing’s clear: both franchises are betting on familiarity and continuity to help usher in their next chapter. For Janocko and Kubiak, it’s a reunion with purpose - and the Raiders’ offense just got a lot more interesting.
