Packers Coach Matt LaFleur Calls Out Key Flaw in Broncos Defense

Matt LaFleur didnt hold back in recognizing the one unit that could decide the showdown between two of the leagues hottest teams.

Broncos' Defense Draws High Praise Ahead of Week 15 Clash with Packers

The Denver Broncos are staring down one of their toughest matchups of the season as the red-hot Green Bay Packers roll into town for a pivotal Week 15 showdown. Green Bay, sitting at 9-3-1 and riding a four-game win streak, is firing on all cylinders. From Jordan Love’s sharp play under center to a defense that flies around the field, the Packers are among the most balanced teams in the league right now.

But if there's one thing that could tilt the scales in Denver’s favor, it’s the Broncos’ defense - a unit that’s been the backbone of their 11-2 start and is earning respect across the league, including from Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

LaFleur on the Broncos’ D: “No Weak Link Out There”

LaFleur didn’t mince words when asked about preparing for Denver’s defense earlier this week. His response?

“That’s a hell of a question. I think everybody’s trying to figure that out right now.”

And he’s not wrong. Denver’s defense has become one of the most complete and disruptive groups in football. Whether it’s the front line generating pressure, the linebackers flying sideline to sideline, or the secondary locking down receivers, this unit doesn’t offer many - if any - soft spots.

“They do a great job,” LaFleur said. “Vance [Joseph] does a hell of a job putting his guys in position.

And there’s not really a weak link out there, when you look at their front, their 'backers, their back end. You’ve got players across the board.”

LaFleur went on to highlight the Broncos’ impressive sack totals and stout run defense, calling out standout play from the safeties and corners in particular. “You’ve got a legitimate shutdown corner.

I think the safeties are excellent. McMillian does a great job, Moss does a great job.”

That’s high praise from a coach who knows a thing or two about building a tough, physical defense - and it underscores just how difficult this matchup could be for Green Bay’s offense.

A Strength-on-Strength Matchup

This one’s shaping up to be a classic strength-on-strength battle. Jordan Love has been in rhythm lately, showing poise in the pocket and making smart, timely throws.

He’s spreading the ball around, using his legs when needed, and avoiding the kind of mistakes that can swing a game. But now he’s about to face a defense that thrives on creating chaos.

Denver’s pass rush has been relentless, and the coverage on the back end has made quarterbacks think twice before letting it rip. The Broncos aren’t just getting stops - they’re dictating games. And while they did give up a surprisingly easy touchdown drive to the Raiders in Week 14, that moment was more of an outlier than a trend.

This defense has been the driving force behind Denver’s surge this season. They're not just good - they’re consistently suffocating, and they’ve made life miserable for some of the league’s top signal-callers.

The Road Ahead

Week 15 won’t be a walk in the park for either side. Green Bay brings plenty of firepower, and with players like Micah Parsons on the defensive side, they’re capable of flipping a game with a single play. But Denver has home field and a defense that’s playing with swagger and precision.

LaFleur sees the similarities between his own defense and Denver’s - the effort, the physicality, the attention to detail. “How hard they play, how hard they finish and tackle,” he said. “It’s gonna be a great test for us.”

And that’s exactly what this game is: a test. For both teams.

For both quarterbacks. And especially for two defenses that don’t take plays off.

If you’re a fan of gritty, high-level football, this one’s got all the ingredients.
