J.K. Dobbins, fresh off a new contract, is making waves on social media with his candid remarks about staying healthy. Known for his outspoken nature, Dobbins didn't hold back when a fan criticized the Denver Broncos for investing in a player they claimed only plays "seven games a season."
Dobbins' response was swift and fiery: “Go be a fan of a different team; lame (expletive) dude,” he tweeted. “And don’t try to turn around when I shut down the fluke injury (expletive) up this year.”
His career has been marred by knee, Achilles, and foot injuries, with only 30 starts out of 64 games. The latest setback, a Lisfranc foot injury, was attributed to an illegal hip-drop tackle by Dobbins.
While his social media followers enjoy his boldness, it's uncertain if Broncos coach Sean Payton shares the sentiment. Payton’s focus on building a team with strong character might not align with such public exchanges, and the Broncos could be scouting for additional running back options.
Troy Renck, a Denver Post columnist, speculated about potential draft picks, suggesting that Notre Dame's Jadarian Price and Arkansas' Mike Washington might be available when Denver picks 62nd in the draft. Price, in particular, stands out.
His impressive NFL combine interview and the endorsement from former Broncos tackle Ryan Harris, who described him as a “minotaur,” suggest he could be a valuable asset. Price is seen as a promising NFL starter with the ability to gain tough yards and break away when needed, though he might not yet be a three-down starter.
On the other hand, Washington offers size and speed but raises questions about his running style, which might not fit Denver's needs as well as Price. The Broncos face the challenge of potentially relying on a "running back by committee" approach, a strategy that hasn't always yielded success in the past.
As the draft approaches, Denver's decision on bolstering their backfield will be crucial, especially with Dobbins' health history in mind.
