Ex-Broncos Champ Mocks Dak Prescott Over Cowboys Hype

Despite impressive stats and recent victories, questions loom over whether Dak Prescott's Cowboys can translate offensive prowess into playoff success.

T.J. Ward isn’t interested in the Cowboys’ offensive fireworks unless they lead somewhere that matters.

The former Broncos safety took aim at Dak Prescott’s talk of Dallas becoming the “Greatest Offense There Is” during an appearance on the “Speakeasy” show on Wednesday, and Ward made it clear he’s not impressed by style points alone.

“Who cares? Hey, Dak, we don't care.

Are you going to make the playoffs?” Ward said.

“You have to win some games, dang. That's what we care about here.

And if you're not winning games, we don't care about how good your offense is.”

Ward kept going, pointing to the one standard that matters in the end.

“Last time I checked, the greatest offense that I've seen and we've seen ended up in the last game of the season. So if you want to consider yourself one of the greatest offense, I don't care what the numbers say. Get to the Super Bowl.”

Prescott and the Cowboys have put up plenty of points lately. After managing only 20 in their regular-season opener against the Giants, Dallas has averaged 34 points over its last three games.

The Cowboys are 2-2, tied with the Eagles and sitting behind the 3-1 New York Giants in the NFC East. Even with the scoring surge, Dallas still hasn’t reached an NFC Championship Game in three decades.

Through four games, Prescott has been efficient and productive, completing 105 of 150 passes for 1,065 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception.

He also showed the kind of late-game poise Dallas needed on Sunday after a frustrating Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Against the Houston Texans, Prescott led a game-winning drive that covered 74 yards in 11 plays and took just 1:43 off the clock before ending with a 12-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb.

After the win, Prescott spoke about what it meant to get back in the column.

“There’s nothing like winning,” Prescott told reporters. “I want to say it fixes all the problems, but it doesn’t. It makes you feel good at least for a day or so.”

He also pointed to the Cowboys’ preparation, communication and trust as key reasons they were able to finish the job. And after the offense settled for a field goal in a crucial red-zone chance against Baltimore, Prescott was pleased to see Dallas respond when the moment called for it most against Houston.

Justin Herbert Faces More Pressure Than Ever In Chargers Must Win

The Chargers are already in a precarious spot heading into Week 5, sitting at 0-4 and heading into Denver with no room left for another stumble if they want to keep even faint playoff hopes alive. For Justin Herbert, the pressure is heavy before the first snap. He has thrown interceptions in five straight games, the longest active streak in the league, while trying to navigate an offense dealing with injuries around him and an offensive line that has not been fully healthy.

Denvers defense has its own issues entering the matchup, which adds another layer to a game that suddenly feels bigger than a normal early-season meeting. Still, Herbert is the central figure here because the Chargers need a clean performance from their quarterback more than ever, and every mistake only deepens the urgency around a season that is already slipping. Broncos Fans Are Starting To Worry About J.K. Dobbins

J.K. Dobbins first month in Denver has not given Broncos fans much reason for comfort. Through four weeks, the veteran running back has managed 161 rushing yards without a touchdown while averaging 3.5 yards per carry, and he is splitting work with fellow back RJ Harvey as the offense continues sorting out its ground game.

Dobbins has acknowledged the slow start and said he is healthy, even after a soft-tissue injury in training camp that briefly clouded his preparation. He has not leaned on that as an explanation, either, choosing instead to frame the issue as one of performance and improvement as the Broncos try to get more out of a run game that has yet to find its rhythm. Broncos Face Two Chargers Problems That Could Wreck This Matchup

The Broncos head into their matchup with the Chargers carrying a couple of concerns that could shape the whole afternoon, starting up front where protection has already been an issue. Denver needs cleaner play on the edge to give its offense a chance to function, and that becomes a tougher ask against a Los Angeles front that can create heat in a hurry.

The other pressure point is on the back end, where Denvers cornerback picture has been thinned by injuries at a bad time. With the Chargers bringing a receiver group that can test depth and communication, the Broncos may have to lean on some less familiar names in coverage and hope the matchup does not force them into constant repair mode.
