Chiefs Embrace Spoiler Role with Chance to Ruin Broncos’ Christmas
The Kansas City Chiefs may be out of the playoff picture, but don’t expect them to roll over in Week 17. If anything, they’re leaning into the chaos - and they’ve got their sights set on spoiling the holiday plans of a division rival.
With the Denver Broncos heading to Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day, Kansas City has an opportunity to do what every eliminated team dreams of in late December: play spoiler. And not just any spoiler - we’re talking about potentially knocking the AFC West champs out of the race for the No. 1 seed in the conference.
Quarterback Chris Oladokun didn’t shy away from the idea. In fact, he embraced it.
“That’d be great, it’d be a great Christmas, that’s for sure,” Oladokun said. “It’d make the mood a lot lighter at home after the game.
We know we’re facing a great opponent in Denver, one of the best teams in the league right now. Not only defensively, but offensively as well.
We’ve definitely got our hands full, and I feel like we got a good plan to go out there and spoil that on Christmas.”
That’s the mindset of a team with nothing left to lose - and everything to gain in terms of pride, rivalry, and momentum heading into the offseason.
A Familiar Role, But a New Motivation
The Chiefs have spent the better part of the last decade as the team everyone else wanted to knock off. Now, for once, they’re on the other side of the storyline.
No playoff pressure. No seeding drama.
Just a shot at messing with the postseason aspirations of a hated rival.
And make no mistake - Denver is rolling. They’ve locked up the AFC West and are eyeing the top seed in the conference. But one slip-up in Arrowhead, and that dream could go up in smoke.
Kansas City knows that. And they’re not pretending otherwise.
There’s something liberating about playing the villain. Especially when it’s against a team that’s been chasing your shadow for years. Now, with the tables turned, the Chiefs are leaning into the role of the Grinch, ready to steal Christmas from a Broncos team that’s finally found its rhythm.
Spoiler Season Is Real
Every year, we see teams out of the playoff hunt take pride in derailing someone else’s run. It’s part of what makes December football so unpredictable. You’ve got contenders fighting for seeding, and you’ve got proud franchises refusing to go quietly.
For Kansas City, this is about more than just one game. It’s about ending a tough season on a high note.
It’s about defending their home turf on a national stage. And yes, it’s about making sure the Broncos don’t have an easy ride into January.
There’s no trophy for playing spoiler. But there’s satisfaction. Especially when it comes at the expense of a division rival.
So while the rest of the league is focused on playoff positioning, don’t overlook what’s brewing in Kansas City. The Chiefs may be out of the race, but they’re not out of the fight.
Not yet. Not on Christmas.
And certainly not against Denver.
Because sometimes, the best gift you can give yourself - is taking something away from someone else.
