Al Michaels’ name blunder during Thursday night’s Seahawks-Broncos game turned into its own talking point, and NFL fans wasted no time piling on.
The veteran broadcaster, who has been calling games for decades, struggled repeatedly with Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s name during Seattle’s late push on Prime Video. That was enough to set off a wave of criticism online, with viewers zeroing in on the fact that one of the league’s biggest stars seemed to trip him up over and over again.
“How does Al Michaels still not know how to pronounce Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s name? I mean he was literally the OPOY last year lmao,” one viewer wrote.
“You’re not prepared for how Al Michaels says JSN,” another posted.
“Al Michaels seems VERY uncomfortable saying JSN’s last name,” someone shared.
“Al Michaels didn’t even TRY to pronounce JSN’s name correctly haha,” one fan observed.
“Stop letting Al Michaels say JSN’s full name lol. Gonna get that man canceled 💀💀💀💀💀,” another viewer declared.
Smith-Njigba, for his part, had a strong night despite Seattle’s loss. He finished with 12 catches for 134 yards and remained the Seahawks’ most productive receiver as they fell 17-14 in overtime in Denver.
Seattle had a shot at another comeback after trailing 14-11 late in the fourth quarter. Smith-Njigba helped move the offense toward midfield, and the Seahawks kept pressing until Jason Myers tied the game with a 34-yard field goal with three seconds left.
But the finish never came for Seattle. Sam Darnold threw an interception to Ja’Quan McMillian in overtime, and that set up Wil Lutz’s 53-yard game-winner for Denver.
The loss dropped Seattle to 3-3.
Michaels also had another name slip during the broadcast, at one point calling Denver returner Marvin Mims “Marvin Jones.”

Bo Nix Sparks Harsh Debate Despite Broncos Escaping With A Win
Bo Nix did enough to help Denver escape Seattle with a 17-14 overtime win, but the Broncos offense still left plenty of questions behind. Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards and did not throw a touchdown, though he kept Denver afloat with two rushing scores in a game that never felt comfortable for long.
The postgame conversation quickly turned sharper than the box score, with Ryan Fitzpatrick taking aim at Nixs approach on the broadcast. Nix, for his part, acknowledged the offenses issues after the win, pointing to the Broncos trouble creating explosive plays and pushing the ball down the field, an area that will keep the scrutiny coming even after a victory. Tom Brady Just Turned Up The Pressure On Bo Nix
The Broncos early-season offense has become one of the leagues louder concerns, and even Tom Brady has now added his voice to the conversation. Through five weeks, Denver has lingered near the bottom of the NFL in key offensive categories, a stretch that has already pushed Sean Payton to step in and handle the play-calling as the team searches for something more stable and more explosive.
Bo Nix has acknowledged the struggles without dodging the bigger picture, stressing that winning still has to be the priority even as criticism builds around the way he plays. Bradys comments only sharpened the scrutiny around Denvers start, putting more pressure on Nix and the Broncos to show that the offense can do more than survive from week to week. [Read more 🡒]
Bo Nix Is Putting Denvers Long-Term Bet On Him In Doubt
Bo Nix entered this season with the Broncos positioned to keep building around him, but his uneven play has made that long-term plan look a little less settled. The team has worked to support the quarterback, yet his 2026 performance has not matched the standard he set in earlier seasons, and the scrutiny around him has grown accordingly.
ESPNs Bill Barnwell pointed out that the real pressure may not come from an immediate change under center, but from what comes next. Denver does not have to make a franchise-defining decision right this second, but the postseason calendar is starting to matter, with contract questions and future control of the position now hanging over Nix as the year unfolds.
