Broncos Trade Deadline Buzz Centers On A Massive O-Line Possibility

Could the Broncos make a bold move to bolster their offensive line by snagging Colts star Quenton Nelson before the trade deadline?

The Denver Broncos may have a chance to shore up their offensive line before the November 10 NFL trade deadline, and Quenton Nelson is suddenly one of the biggest names in the mix.

Nelson, the Indianapolis Colts’ standout guard, has been linked to Denver as the Colts sort through major decisions on several veterans. ESPN reported that NFL teams are looking into possible trades involving Indianapolis players such as Nelson, Jonathan Taylor and DeForest Buckner, though the Colts have not committed to moving Nelson.

For Denver, the attraction is obvious. Nelson is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro, and he has stayed with the Colts since they took him sixth overall in the 2018 draft. At 30, he is still playing at a high level and remains one of the NFL’s top interior offensive linemen.

The numbers back that up. Pro Football Focus gives Nelson an 86.6 overall grade this season, which ranks third among 74 qualifying guards. He also sits third in pass blocking at 81.9 and fourth in run blocking at 83.4, while not allowing a sack over 468 offensive snaps.

That kind of production would fit what Denver needs on offense, especially in front of quarterback Bo Nix and in the run game. In a recent Broncos On SI analysis, Chad Jensen listed Nelson as one of five realistic trade targets who could help Denver’s postseason push, and he floated a second-round pick as a possible price, though that was his estimate rather than a reported ask.

The contract side matters too. Nelson is in the last year of a four-year, $80 million extension, so any team trading for him would likely have to think about another costly deal if it wants to keep him beyond 2026.

For now, Denver remains a team to watch as the deadline nears.

Broncos Defense Just Bought Denver Time Before Chiefs Week

The Broncos left Sunday with more than a 30-16 win over the Cardinals. They also walked away with some proof that Vance Josephs defense can keep doing its job even when the lineup is missing key pieces. Denver managed that without cornerback Pat Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga, and the unit still found ways to limit Arizonas scoring chances.

That matters because the next stop is Kansas City, where every stop gets amplified. Josephs adjustments held together well enough to buy Denver a little breathing room, with Taylor Rapp and JaQuan McMillian among the defenders who helped steady things, and now the bigger question is whether the Broncos can get healthier in time for a much stiffer test. Broncos Fans Will Love Where Mike Shanahan Lands In Coaching Debate

In a league obsessed with the next young offensive mind, it is easy to forget how firmly Mike Shanahan already sits among the giants of the modern NFL. The coaching conversation in this piece centers on the usual elite names, with Andy Reid, Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin all getting their due for the championships and sustained success that separate the truly great from the merely very good. For Broncos fans, though, the familiar part of the debate is what makes it worth reading.

Shanahan is still being measured in the same breath as todays active standard-bearers, including John Harbaugh, Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, and that alone says plenty about his staying power. The bar for that group is brutally high, and the season-long pressure on current coaches only sharpens the comparison, but the place Shanahan occupies in the discussion should feel awfully familiar in Denver. Broncos Fans Just Got A Real Marvin Mims Hint From Sean Payton

Marvin Mims role against the Cardinals offered another look at how the Broncos want to use him going forward. After spending the game back as Denvers primary return man, he handled every punt and kick return and gave the special teams unit the kind of spark it has been chasing. He also flashed on offense, adding two catches for 53 yards in a victory that had several moving parts.

Sean Paytons comments afterward only reinforced the idea that Mims is headed for a bigger role in the passing game. The Broncos coach said the team needs to get him more touches on offense and made clear that is the plan, while also stressing how much special teams still matters to the way Denver wins games. For a player whose impact can show up in multiple phases, that kind of usage could become a recurring theme. [Read more 🡒]
