In a blockbuster NFL trade that’s bound to shake things up, the Denver Broncos are acquiring standout wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. The Broncos are sending their first, third, and fourth-round picks (Nos. 30, 94, and 130) to Miami in exchange for Waddle and a 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 111).
This move marks a significant shift for both franchises. Denver, which had been relatively quiet during the early days of free agency, is making a bold statement by bringing in Waddle as a premier target for their quarterback, Bo Nix. Waddle’s addition immediately elevates the Broncos’ offensive potential, providing Nix with a dynamic playmaker who can stretch the field and create opportunities.
On the flip side, the Dolphins continue their strategic roster overhaul. Despite previous reports suggesting Miami wasn’t keen on moving Waddle, this trade underscores a commitment to stockpiling draft capital.
Waddle was reportedly close to being traded last season, but Miami held onto him, perhaps hoping to build around his talents. However, the lure of multiple high-value draft picks proved too tempting to resist.
Financially, this trade leaves Miami with over $23 million in dead money and raises Waddle’s cap hit in 2026 by $11 million. Waddle, now 27, had a storied college career at Alabama, earning first-team All-American honors before an ankle injury cut his 2020 season short. Drafted sixth overall by the Dolphins in 2021, he quickly became a key player for Miami’s offense.
Waddle’s contract situation has been notable. After signing a four-year rookie deal worth over $27 million, including a hefty signing bonus, Miami exercised his fifth-year option for 2024, valued at $15.591 million.
The Dolphins later extended him with a three-year, $84.75 million deal before the 2024 season. He’s set to earn $17 million and $24 million over the next two years.
In the 2025 season, Waddle demonstrated his value by playing in 16 games, racking up 64 receptions for 910 yards and six touchdowns. His departure leaves a void in Miami’s receiving corps, but the influx of draft picks provides the Dolphins with ample opportunities to reshape their roster.
This trade is a game-changer, setting the stage for an intriguing season as both teams look to leverage their new assets. Broncos fans have every reason to be excited about the offensive fireworks Waddle is sure to bring.
