It's official: the Denver Broncos have added some depth to their secondary by signing free agent safety Tycen Anderson to a one-year deal. The announcement came through NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Thursday morning, putting to rest the swirl of reports from the previous day.
Standing at 6-2 and weighing in at 205 pounds, Anderson marks Denver's first foray into signing an outside free agent this offseason. Prior to this, the Broncos focused on retaining their own talent, re-signing 17 in-house free agents. In fact, Denver was the last NFL team this offseason to bring in a player from another club.
Anderson, a fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 NFL Draft, hails from Toledo. He carved out a niche as a core special teams player in Cincinnati, logging 382 snaps in the kicking game last season. With 23 tackles in 17 games during 2025, he also contributed on defense with 64 snaps as a backup safety.
With Anderson now in the fold, the Broncos boast a roster of five safeties, including Brandon Jones, Talanoa Hufunga, Devon Key, and JL Skinner. Following the departure of P.J. Locke in free agency, there's potential for Devon Key to step into the No. 3 safety role, while Anderson and Skinner are poised to bolster the special teams unit and provide valuable depth.
