Broncos' Strong Start Comes With One Concern Fans Can't Ignore

The Denver Broncos face mounting pressure to bolster their offense amidst mixed results, as the latest AFC power rankings shine a light on their precarious yet promising position.

The AFC picture is already tilting in Kansas City’s direction, and the Broncos are sitting in a spot that says plenty about where they are right now: good enough to be near the top, but not yet polished enough to belong with the conference’s true heavyweights.

Denver checks in at No. 3 in the latest AFC power rankings after Week 6, a placement that reflects both sides of its season. The Broncos are 4-2 and have survived a brutal opening stretch, but the offense has been stuck in the mud for most of the year.

Outside of a few “gotta have it” moments, it has looked flat. That has put a lot of the spotlight on Bo Nix, who really hasn’t been good this season.

If Denver wants this thing to turn into a real run, the offense has to climb at least into average territory.

That’s the tension with the Broncos right now. They’ve banked quality wins and handled a nasty schedule, but the margin for error is thin because the offense is so anemic. They can rise fast in this league, but they can just as quickly slide if that side of the ball doesn’t come around.

Ahead of Denver in the AFC rankings are the Bills at No. 2 and the Chiefs at No. 1.

Buffalo moved to 5-1 after beating the Raiders, but the defense has been flat-out atrocious, and it’s fair to wonder how long that kind of profile can hold if the Bills need to keep winning shootouts. Kansas City, meanwhile, remains the conference’s only unbeaten team at 5-0 after taking down the Chargers in Week 6.

With how elite Kenneth Walker III has been, the Chiefs offense doesn’t really have to lift a finger half the time.

Elsewhere in the AFC, the Patriots continue to climb at No. 6 behind the rise of Drake Maye, while the Bengals sit at No. 5 and still look dangerous if their revamped defense can stay out of the league’s basement. The Jaguars landed at No. 4 even after a loss to Houston, and the Texans jumped to No. 8 after winning two straight following their 0-4 start.

Baltimore is No. 7 after losing without Lamar Jackson, but remains in a strong position in the division. Cleveland, at No. 10, has become one of the more interesting stories in football at 4-2. Pittsburgh is 11th after an ugly win over Tampa Bay, while the Jets are No. 12 and still feel like a five- or six-win team.

The bottom of the list is where the rebuild chatter gets loudest. The Titans moved up to No. 14 after beating Indianapolis, the Colts dropped to No. 13 after losing at home to a winless division rival, the Chargers are 0-6 and dead last at No. 15, and the Dolphins remain winless at 0-5 and are now on their bye.

For Denver, the message from the AFC is clear: the results are good enough to keep the Broncos in the conversation, but the offense has to start matching the record before this season can really open up.

Broncos' 4-2 Start Hides A Problem Fans Can't Ignore

A 4-2 start against a demanding schedule has the Broncos positioned well in the standings, but the record has come with a familiar catch for anyone watching closely. The defense has done the heavy lifting in enough games to keep Denver afloat, while the offense has often struggled to generate the kind of consistent production that makes a winning run feel stable.

The concern is not just aesthetic, either. Analysts around the team have pointed out that the current formula is hard to sustain over a full season, especially when so much depends on the defense holding up its end every week. Denver has earned the wins it has, but the next stretch will say a lot about whether the offense can do enough to support the start the Broncos have built. [Read more 🡒]

Former Broncos Pro Bowler Found A New Purpose Fans Will Respect

Julian Thomas carved out a memorable NFL career with the Broncos as a tight end and two-time Pro Bowl selection, but his post-football path has taken him somewhere even more meaningful. Since retiring in 2018, Thomas has shifted into the mental side of athletics, becoming a clinical psychologist and performance coach with a focus on helping athletes handle the pressures that come with competition and life beyond it.

Thomas also turned that interest into something bigger than a private practice, building a brand around athlete well-being through Optimal Performance. The work fits a modern need in sports, where mental health and performance are increasingly linked, and it gives Broncos fans a different reason to appreciate a player who is still making an impact long after his playing days ended. Broncos Fans Just Got A Familiar Brandon McManus Reminder

A familiar name is back in the kicking carousel, and it carries a little extra meaning for Broncos fans. The Rams have turned to veteran Brandon McManus to steady a position that has been giving them trouble, bringing in a player whose resume stretches across 12 NFL seasons and includes a long run in Denver.

Los Angeles needed another answer after cycling through Harrison Mevis and Blake Grupe, a reminder of how quickly kickers can become a weekly concern in the NFL. McManus is expected to give the Rams some stability this season, while Denver followers are left with the kind of recognition that comes with seeing an old reliable leg pop up in a new uniform.
