Broncos Re-Sign TE Lucas Krull to an Intriguing One-Year Deal

Despite past struggles, the Broncos retain Lucas Krull, signaling potential draft moves to strengthen the tight end position.

The Denver Broncos are making moves to maintain continuity in their tight end lineup, re-signing Lucas Krull to a one-year deal worth $1.145 million. Krull, who entered the offseason as a restricted free agent, found himself back with the Broncos after a brief stint as a free agent.

As it stands, the Broncos are sticking with the same tight end group from last season. Evan Engram remains the dynamic 'Joker', Adam Trautman holds the starting position, Nate Adkins continues as the blocking specialist, while Krull adds depth as a pass-catching option. Lohner is still on board as the developmental prospect.

While some fans might have hoped for an overhaul in the tight end department given last season's challenges, the Broncos have opted for stability. There’s still room for change, especially with the draft on the horizon, but for now, the lineup remains unchanged.

Krull, a big and athletic presence, has yet to make a significant impact since joining the team in 2023. Over three seasons, he has accumulated 29 catches for 262 yards and one touchdown. Last season, his contributions were limited to 3 games with 2 receptions for 15 yards.

This re-signing likely signals that the Broncos are stepping back from pursuing veteran tight ends in free agency. However, the draft still presents an opportunity to bolster the position. While Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq might be out of reach by their first-round pick, prospects like Vanderbilt’s Eli Stowers could be on their radar, especially if they’re seeking a more traditional in-line tight end.
