The Denver Broncos are wasting no time reshaping their coaching staff after a deep playoff run, and the first major move comes on the offensive side of the ball. Davis Webb, who’s been working closely with the quarterbacks over the past two seasons, has officially been promoted to offensive coordinator. It’s a significant step up for the 28-year-old coach, and one that signals Sean Payton’s trust in Webb’s football mind-and his future.
Webb replaces Joe Lombardi, who was let go following the Broncos' AFC Championship Game exit. That decision, while tough, opened the door for Webb to take the reins of the offense.
And make no mistake-this wasn’t just an internal promotion for the sake of continuity. Webb drew attention across the league this offseason, reportedly garnering interest for both offensive coordinator and even head coaching positions elsewhere.
Payton clearly wasn’t willing to let him walk.
Webb’s rise has been fast but not without substance. After wrapping up a six-year NFL playing career that included stints with the Giants, Jets, and Bills, he joined Denver’s staff in 2023 as the quarterbacks coach.
Since then, he’s been instrumental in developing the Broncos’ passing attack and working hand-in-hand with Payton on game planning. Now, with the offensive coordinator title in hand, he’ll have the chance to put more of his fingerprints on the entire offensive operation.
To fill Webb’s previous role, the Broncos are promoting Logan Kilgore to quarterbacks coach. Kilgore has been with the team since 2023, working behind the scenes as an offensive quality control coach.
His work primarily focused on tight ends and returners, but his attention to detail and understanding of the offensive system clearly stood out to Payton and the staff. Kilgore’s journey includes coaching stops at Arkansas State, Isidore Newman High School, and Bakersfield College-each step building toward this opportunity.
On the defensive side, continuity appears to be the theme. Vance Joseph is expected to remain as defensive coordinator, with no head coaching offers pulling him away from Denver. That stability on defense, paired with a fresh voice leading the offense, gives the Broncos a balanced foundation heading into what promises to be a pivotal offseason.
For Broncos fans, the sting of falling just short of the Super Bowl still lingers. But these early coaching moves are about more than just staffing-they’re about setting a tone.
Payton is betting on young, ascending minds like Webb and Kilgore to help push this team over the top. The pieces are starting to fall into place, and if this staff can build on the momentum from last season, Denver could be right back in the title conversation come next January.
