The Broncos have made a strategic decision regarding linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Instead of releasing him immediately, they're opting to wait until the new league year to designate him as a post-June 1 cut.
This move is all about financial savvy, allowing the Broncos to save $8.19 million this year, compared to $6.023 million if they cut him now. They'll take a $2.166 million dead cap hit instead of $4.33 million, with an additional $2.164 million in dead money impacting 2027.
Greenlaw, who inked a three-year deal last March, was set to earn $7.47 million this season. His 2025 campaign was marred by a quad injury and a suspension, limiting him to eight regular-season games. Even so, he managed to rack up 43 tackles, a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble.
In the meantime, the Broncos have bolstered their linebacker corps by re-signing Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton. This move suggests they're looking to maintain depth and experience in their defensive lineup while navigating the cap space intricacies.
