Broncos Linked to Former Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer for Coaching Role

Broncos eye former Cowboys DC Mike Zimmer for a pivotal coaching role, exploring his seasoned expertise and mutual interest.

The Denver Broncos are in discussions with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer about a potential senior coaching role. While no deal has been finalized, there's genuine interest from both parties.

Zimmer, now 69, has a storied career in the NFL, beginning with the Cowboys in 1994 as their defensive backs coach. He climbed the ranks to become their defensive coordinator and later took on similar roles with the Falcons and Bengals. In 2014, the Vikings brought him on as their head coach.

Zimmer's tenure with the Vikings was marked by success, including a 72-56-1 record and three playoff appearances, highlighted by a trip to the NFC Championship game in 2017. Despite a contract extension in 2020, his time with Minnesota ended in 2021.

Afterward, Zimmer lent his expertise as a consultant to Deion Sanders at Jackson State and Colorado, before returning to the Cowboys as defensive coordinator in 2024. Now, with the Broncos showing interest, Zimmer's wealth of experience could be a valuable asset as they look to bolster their coaching staff.
