The Denver Broncos turned Sunday night into chaos, and they did it again in Week 3.
Down 16-0, Denver ripped off a 30-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams in a game that never felt normal for long. The Broncos were blanked in the first half, looked dead in the water, and then found another late comeback to steal a victory that will sit near the top of the season’s wildest finishes.
Talanoa Hufanga was right in the middle of it. After spending his first season in Denver as the guy who kept missing interception chances, he finally cashed in in a big way.
His first Broncos interception went for a pick-six, and his second sealed the win. He also added a sack on Matthew Stafford, turning in the kind of game that changes the way people remember him in orange and blue.
The Broncos also kept showing their strange split personality. For stretches, they looked flat and disorganized.
At other moments, they looked like a team that has no trouble finding the exact play it needs when the game tightens. That was the difference here.
They stumbled early, but once the comeback started, they never let go.
There were matchups the Rams won, too. Davante Adams got the better of Pat Surtain II, finishing with 7 catches for 137 yards on 13 targets. That kind of production against Surtain stands out, and Adams repeatedly gave the Broncos trouble throughout the night.
Denver’s offense also had some head-scratching moments on short yardage. Davis Webb’s play-calling on 3rd-and-short came under the microscope again, with the Broncos repeatedly making it look like they were going to throw instead of leaning on the run.
That included a 3rd-and-1 in the fourth quarter that ended with a pass batted down at the line. It was the third straight game with questions about how Denver handled those spots.
Still, the Broncos found help in the return game. With Marvin Mims Jr. out again, Denver elevated rookie free agent Kolbe Katsis from the practice squad, and he made it count.
He returned three punts for 39 yards, including a 28-yard burst that helped spark the first touchdown drive of the game. He also helped swing field position on an unsportsmanlike penalty that forced the Rams to re-kick, turning a drive that would have started at Denver’s own 10 into one that began near midfield.
The receiving group did its part as well. Courtland Sutton led the Broncos with 46 yards on three catches.
Pat Bryant finished with two receptions for 44 yards, including a touchdown and a huge conversion on 2nd-and-20 during the go-ahead drive. Bryant also drew a pass interference flag after what became a key moment late.
Jaylen Waddle was quieter than he was against the Jaguars, but he still had a jet sweep run that helped a scoring drive and added a two-point conversion that left people shaking their heads.
Denver also kept giving up opportunities on defense. Alex Singleton and Riley Moss continued to be targets.
Moss had another costly penalty and was beaten on a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter after biting on a double move. Singleton, meanwhile, was the player Sean McVay clearly aimed at attacking, and the Rams had success doing exactly that.
Bo Nix did not have his sharpest night. There were rough throws in the mix.
But when the Broncos needed him most, he delivered. He finished the comeback with a go-ahead touchdown, soaring over the goal line and closing out another game-winning drive for Denver.
