Broncos Just Turned Their Chiefs Statement Win Into Something Even Bigger

The Broncos' thrilling comeback victory over the Chiefs captivated a record audience, marking the most-watched Week 8 NFL broadcast on CBS.

The Broncos’ latest comeback didn’t just shake up the AFC West - it pulled in a massive television audience and set a CBS record in the process.

Denver’s 28-24 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday averaged 28.175 million viewers, making it the most-watched Week 8 NFL game in CBS history, according to figures announced Tuesday by CBS Sports and reported by NBC Sports.

That number also marked an 11% jump over CBS’s comparable Week 8 window from last season, a sign that this AFC West matchup carried serious national draw.

It was the second-most-watched NFL game of the 2026 season, behind only the Chiefs’ Week 4 meeting with the Las Vegas Raiders, which averaged 28.449 million viewers. With that, Kansas City now owns the two biggest NFL audiences of the season, and both came on CBS.

The game itself delivered the kind of finish that keeps viewers glued to the screen. Denver entered the fourth quarter down 24-13, then Bo Nix sparked another rally. He hit Nate Adkins for a touchdown and then found Jaylen Waddle on a two-point conversion to trim the gap to three.

Kansas City still had a chance to put it away, but Harrison Butker missed a 54-yard field goal. That opened the door for Denver, and Nix quickly took advantage by connecting with rookie running back Jonah Coleman for a 51-yard gain. Coleman finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, putting the Broncos in front 28-24 with 1:56 left.

The Chiefs made one last push and got inside Denver’s 5-yard line, but the Broncos’ defense held firm with a goal-line stand to seal it.

The win stretched Denver’s streak to four games and lifted the Broncos to 6-2, moving them ahead of Kansas City in the AFC West standings.

CBS has had a strong NFL season overall, and Sunday’s game only added to that momentum. The network’s national Sunday late-afternoon window is averaging 25.306 million viewers, while its overall NFL coverage is averaging 19.561 million, up 5% from the same point last season.

For Denver, the result meant more than a division lead. It came with a record audience and another reminder that the Broncos are becoming must-watch TV.

Broncos Veterans Suddenly Raise A Troubling Question After Chiefs Loss

The Broncos came out of their loss to the Chiefs with a familiar mix of frustration and concern, and a few veteran names were at the center of it. J.K. Dobbins, Mike McGlinchey and Justin Strnad all drew attention for the wrong reasons, as Denvers offense and defense both had stretches where experienced players simply did not hold up the way the team needed.

Dobbins has not looked like the steady back the Broncos were counting on since dealing with a foot injury, while McGlincheys recent decline has started to show up in the protection in front of the quarterback. On defense, Strnads missed assignment was part of a sequence that left Denver exposed, adding to the sense that the Broncos have to sort out whether these are one-game issues or signs of something more troubling as the season moves on. Broncos 6-2 Start Is Hiding One Offensive Problem Fans Cant Ignore

A 6-2 start and a spot atop the division usually buy a team a little breathing room, but Denvers offense is still drawing hard questions from one of its own. FOX college football analyst and Broncos fan Joel Klatt said he was surprised the club has reached this point while ranking so low offensively, a sign that the record is masking some real issues on that side of the ball.

Klatt pointed to the offensive line as the central concern and said the passing game has been slowed by Bo Nix leaning on checkdowns, a pattern that speaks to confidence and trust. He also flagged the Broncos low third-down conversion rate, though the schedule ahead could offer a chance to clean some of that up before the season gets any tighter. [Read more 🡒]

Broncos Face One Trap Game Concern Heading Into Carolina

The Broncos head to Carolina riding a four-game winning streak and sitting atop the AFC West after knocking off the Chiefs, but this is the kind of spot that can quietly test a teams discipline. With Denver coming off a statement win, the matchup on the outside looks like one of the more important parts of the week, especially with Courtland Sutton set to be a central piece of the Broncos passing game and Patrick Surtain II again looming as the defenses top cover man.

Carolina brings its own high-end talent into the equation, with D.J. Moore a major threat and Stephon Gilmore still capable of changing how an offense attacks. For Denver, the concern is less about the standings and more about whether it can stay sharp in a game that has all the ingredients of a trap if the Broncos let the matchup game drift away from them.
