Broncos Interview Bills Coach Amid Big Changes to Offensive Staff

With coaching ties to Sean Payton and a proven track record developing top talent, Ronald Curry is once again in the mix as the Broncos explore options for their next offensive coordinator.

The Denver Broncos are continuing their search for an offensive coordinator, and they've added another intriguing name to the mix: Ronald Curry, currently the Buffalo Bills’ quarterbacks coach. Curry recently interviewed for the position, and while Davis Webb remains a strong internal candidate, Curry brings a compelling résumé and a deep connection to head coach Sean Payton.

Curry, 46, has been around the league for a while-first as a player, then as a coach. He spent most of his playing career as a wide receiver with the Raiders from 2002 to 2009, with brief stints in Detroit and St.

Louis toward the end. But it's his coaching journey that makes him a particularly interesting fit in Denver.

He broke into the coaching ranks in 2014 with the 49ers as an offensive assistant, but it was his time in New Orleans under Sean Payton that really shaped his coaching identity. Curry joined the Saints in 2016 and steadily climbed the ladder-first as an offensive assistant, then wide receivers coach, and eventually quarterbacks coach.

By 2022, he was also serving as the pass game coordinator. That kind of progression under Payton's watch says a lot about the trust and confidence the head coach had in him.

After his stint in New Orleans, Curry joined the Buffalo Bills in 2024 as their quarterbacks coach. That role put him in direct contact with Josh Allen, who just so happens to be the reigning MVP.

Coaching one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks-and doing it successfully-only strengthens Curry’s case. You don’t get to work with a player like Allen unless you bring something real to the table.

Curry's familiarity with Payton’s system is a major plus here. He knows the terminology, the philosophy, the expectations-there’s no learning curve in that regard.

But he also brings something fresh to the table. His recent experience in Buffalo’s offense, paired with his time developing quarterbacks, could offer a new perspective for Denver’s young signal-caller, Bo Nix.

And while Davis Webb is still very much in the picture-assuming he doesn’t land the Raiders’ head coaching job-Curry appears to be more than just a fallback option. Even if Webb ends up with the OC title, there’s a realistic path for Curry to join the staff in another high-level offensive role. With Joe Brady now taking over as head coach in Buffalo, there may be a coaching shake-up there that opens the door for Curry to make a move.

Bottom line: Curry’s resume checks a lot of boxes. He’s got experience coaching receivers and quarterbacks, he’s worked under Payton before, and he’s helped guide an MVP-level quarterback in one of the league’s most explosive offenses. If the Broncos are looking for someone who can blend familiarity with innovation, Ronald Curry might be exactly what they need.
