J.K. Dobbins hasn’t found his rhythm yet in Denver, and he’s not sugarcoating it.
After four weeks, the Broncos running back has just 161 rushing yards, no touchdowns and a 3.5-yard average per carry. That’s a tough opening stretch for a player who has built his career on more efficient production.
“Right now, it’s a dark spot,” Dobbins said, via Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post. “That’s part of being in the NFL, though. I’m going to find a way to play to the standard that I play at.”
What makes the slow start stand out even more is Dobbins’ track record. Entering the 2026 season, he had averaged more than five yards per carry in his career. That level of production simply hasn’t shown up so far this year.
He did deal with a soft-tissue injury in training camp, but he made it clear he’s not leaning on that as the explanation.
“I’m healthy,” Dobbins continued. “I’m out there playing.
Any time - whether it’s fully healthy, not healthy, 75 percent, 60, 80, 90, 100, if I’m out there, I’ve got to play good, you know what I mean? No matter what’s going on, if I’m going out there, that means I think I can make plays.”
Dobbins has also been sharing work with Broncos teammate RJ Harvey. That arrangement hasn’t always been a problem for him - he found success while splitting time with Harvey last season.
Still, if the production doesn’t turn soon, the workload may shrink even further. His snap count could keep trending down unless he starts making a bigger impact.
Dobbins, a second-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 NFL Draft, has piled up 3,185 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns in his NFL career.

Justin Herbert Faces More Pressure Than Ever In Chargers Must Win
The Chargers are already in a precarious spot heading into Week 5, sitting at 0-4 and heading into Denver with no room left for another stumble if they want to keep even faint playoff hopes alive. For Justin Herbert, the pressure is heavy before the first snap. He has thrown interceptions in five straight games, the longest active streak in the league, while trying to navigate an offense dealing with injuries around him and an offensive line that has not been fully healthy.
Denvers defense has its own issues entering the matchup, which adds another layer to a game that suddenly feels bigger than a normal early-season meeting. Still, Herbert is the central figure here because the Chargers need a clean performance from their quarterback more than ever, and every mistake only deepens the urgency around a season that is already slipping. Broncos Face Two Chargers Problems That Could Wreck This Matchup
The Broncos head into their matchup with the Chargers carrying a couple of concerns that could shape the whole afternoon, starting up front where protection has already been an issue. Denver needs cleaner play on the edge to give its offense a chance to function, and that becomes a tougher ask against a Los Angeles front that can create heat in a hurry.
The other pressure point is on the back end, where Denvers cornerback picture has been thinned by injuries at a bad time. With the Chargers bringing a receiver group that can test depth and communication, the Broncos may have to lean on some less familiar names in coverage and hope the matchup does not force them into constant repair mode. Broncos Have A Courtland Sutton Problem Sean Payton Must Solve
Courtland Suttons slow start has become one of the more noticeable issues in Denvers early season, especially after he followed consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns with a quieter opening month. Sean Payton acknowledged the Broncos need to create more chances for Sutton, while Bo Nix said he was unsure why the wideout has been so limited but expects the distribution to change from week to week.
The concern is not just about one receiver getting touches, but about Denver finding a rhythm that keeps its top options involved and the passing game balanced. Pat Bryants admission that he exaggerated contact to draw a pass interference call in Week 4 only added to the sense that this offense is still searching for clean, reliable answers, and it leaves Payton with a problem he cannot let linger much longer.
