Jarrett Stidham’s standing with the Broncos took another hit this week, and this one came from outside Denver.
The New York Giants are searching for quarterback help after Jaxson Dart suffered an extremely disappointing, season-ending knee injury, and while Jameis Winston is ready to start games for them, they’re still looking to add before September ends. But according to a report from ESPN/NFL Network, Stidham is not part of that search.
“Sources told ESPN and NFL Network that the list of quarterbacks includes: free agent Jimmy Garoppolo, Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew II, Vikings reserve J.J. McCarthy, 49ers backup Mac Jones, and Chiefs backup Justin Fields.”

That list says plenty on its own. The Giants are weighing names like J.J. McCarthy and Justin Fields, yet Stidham isn’t there, and that’s a rough reflection on where his stock sits right now.
He did get his chance with Denver in the AFC Championship Game, stepping in for Bo Nix in a tough spot. But the moment didn’t go well. The second half was miserable in brutal conditions, and Stidham’s play was right there with it after a strong start.
That performance appeared to spill into the 2026 preseason, where Stidham never looked settled and at times was outplayed by third-string quarterback Sam Ehlinger. There was real offseason chatter that the Broncos might move on from Stidham and make Ehlinger the backup to Bo Nix, but nothing came of it, and Denver kept the quarterback room intact.
For now, that may still be the plan. Stidham may not truly be available. Then again, if the right offer showed up, the Broncos would have to think about it, especially with $6.5 million in potential cap savings tied to a trade.
Still, the bigger point is hard to miss: a Giants team in obvious need at quarterback apparently doesn’t see Stidham as one of the answers. Given Denver’s decision to keep three quarterbacks and let Stidham count over $8 million against the cap, that leaves the Broncos with a decision that doesn’t look especially sharp from the outside.
