Broncos Eye Major Linebacker Boost as New Opportunity Emerges

Broncos Eyeing Impactful Moves to Strengthen Linebacker Lineup with Trade and Draft Options

The Denver Broncos are facing a pivotal offseason as they look to bolster their inside linebacker corps. With both Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad entering free agency, the team is eyeing significant changes.

The good news? This year’s free agency class is rich with talent, and the 2026 NFL Draft promises a wealth of promising prospects.

While Singleton may not be a priority for Denver, Strnad could make a return if the price aligns. However, the Broncos are likely to welcome new faces to the lineup. They have options: bringing in a starter through free agency, drafting a potential standout, or even exploring the trade market to strengthen the position.

A particularly intriguing opportunity arose this Wednesday, with the potential availability of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. According to reports, the Chicago Bears have given Edmunds the green light to seek a trade.

At just 28 years old, Edmunds has been a consistent force since entering the league in 2018. His career includes stints with the Buffalo Bills and the Bears, amassing 900 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 59 passes defended.

In 2025, Edmunds showcased his skills with four interceptions, nine passes defended, and 112 tackles in only 13 games for Chicago. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 34th-best linebacker, highlighting his solid coverage abilities with an 87.2 rating. Edmunds’ versatility is evident in his career stats, including 8.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, and 24 quarterback hits.

Financially, the Bears are looking to clear cap space, saving $15 million with a potential trade. Edmunds’ contract, which has a year remaining without guaranteed salary, makes him an appealing option for teams like Denver. Pairing him with Dre Greenlaw could elevate the Broncos' defense significantly.

The Broncos also have the draft to consider for infusing young talent into their linebacker room. While free agents such as Devin Lloyd might be a better fit, Edmunds presents a compelling trade target that could solidify Denver's defense heading into the new season.
