The Broncos head into Week 4 with a clear edge before the first snap is even taken: they’re healthier than the 49ers, and the gap is significant.
Denver is riding a two-game winning streak into a matchup with one of the NFL’s few unbeaten teams, but the injury report tilts heavily in the Broncos’ favor. San Francisco is 3-0 despite what the source describes as an easy schedule and a “wacky international game,” and the 49ers have still looked efficient on both sides of the ball. That’s why this one has the feel of a tight game, even with the health disparity.
For Denver, the picture is clean. Marvin Mims Jr. and Jaylen Waddle were full participants in practice all week, and neither carries an injury designation. The only Broncos player ruled out is Dondrea Tillman, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.
J.K. Dobbins, Zach Allen, DJ Jones, Mims, and Waddle are all set to play.
Allen and Jones had veteran rest days during the week, which makes sense given the load they’ve carried up front. With Denver’s defensive line missing some pieces from a year ago and lacking the same “bite” it had last season, more has fallen on Allen and Jones early on.
That absence at outside linebacker could open the door for practice squad EDGE Johnny Walker to be elevated for Week 4 to fill Tillman’s spot until he’s ready to return.
San Francisco’s report tells the opposite story. The 49ers are dealing with a long list of injuries, and along the defensive line alone, Nick Bosa, James Thompson Jr., and Mykel Williams are all out. Bosa is dealing with a calf injury, Thompson with an ankle issue, and Williams is also sidelined.
The questionable list adds even more uncertainty. Mike Evans, Keion White, Dre Greenlaw, and Jaden Dugger are all listed as questionable. Trent Williams is also on the report with a stinger.
The Broncos already had a look at Greenlaw last year, but he was only on the field for about half the games and, according to the source, never really fit in Denver.
San Francisco’s overall injury situation is sizable as well. The 49ers have 16 players on injured reserve, according to their team website.
So while Denver enters Week 4 with the personnel advantage and a healthier roster, that only sets the stage. It doesn’t decide the outcome. Still, the Broncos have made a habit in the Sean Payton era of staying among the league’s healthiest teams, and that has shown up again here.

Broncos Niners Preview Turned Into An Unexpected Live TV Moment
Sundays FOX NFL Sunday pregame show had its usual Broncos-49ers preview rhythm until Terry Bradshaw briefly turned the set into a cleanup scene. While talking through the matchup, Bradshaw accidentally knocked over a cup of coffee, creating a live-TV moment that viewers saw unfold in real time.
Curt Menefee moved in to handle the spill, and Bradshaw kept right on with the analysis without missing a beat. It was a reminder that even on a polished studio show, the most memorable moments can come from the kind of unscripted mishap no one sees coming. [Read more 🡒]
Broncos Rookie Jahfari Harvey Just Hit An Important Early Step
Jahfari Harvey is taking an important first step in his early Broncos journey, and for a rookie outside linebacker, that usually means proving he can absorb the details before anything else. Harvey confirmed he has been signed to the practice squad and is currently working on the scout team while learning the playbook, a familiar but meaningful stage for a young defender trying to earn a longer look in Denver.
For a team that is constantly balancing development with immediate needs, getting a rookie into the building and into the system matters. Harveys focus now is on the daily grind of practice work and installation, the kind of behind-the-scenes progress that does not show up on game day but can determine whether a player is ready when the next opportunity arrives. Courtland Sutton Is Closing In On A Broncos Milestone With Extra Meaning
Courtland Sutton is within one catch of another place in Broncos history, and this one carries a little extra juice because of who is on the other sideline. Sutton enters the matchup with the San Francisco 49ers at 461 receptions, just one shy of tying Ed McCaffrey for fifth in franchise history at 462, a mark that would add another line to a quietly impressive Denver rsum.
The wrinkle, of course, is that the 49ers are led by Christian McCaffrey, Ed McCaffreys son, which gives the milestone a family link Denver fans will notice right away. Sutton is not the only Bronco nearing a franchise benchmark either, as a few other players are also creeping toward team milestones, but this one stands out because it blends history, timing and a little bit of crossover intrigue.
