Bo Nix didn’t sound rattled after the Denver Broncos’ 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, even if the performance itself gave plenty of reason for concern.
After watching the film, Nix said the Broncos have no need to spiral after a game that was ugly from start to finish. He framed the defeat as something that got derailed by a few bad moments rather than a broader breakdown, and he kept leaning on the idea that Denver is still in decent shape.
“You watch the film and there’s a couple good things and then all of a sudden we’re back because of a penalty or something and you just can’t win in this league like that,” Nix said.
He followed that up with an even calmer read on the situation.
“Overall, we’re not going to press the panic button and we’re not freaking out,” Nix added We’re not starting from scratch or anything. We feel like we’re still in a good spot.We just didn’t play great by any means and we’ve got to play better.”
Nix also pointed to what he described as a “clean operation” with new offensive coordinator Davis Webb calling plays. He said the Broncos handled the huddle well, got in and out of it smoothly, and communicated effectively. In his view, the team knew its assignments.
But that explanation only went so far.
When asked why the offense looked so poor, Nix said, “I would say it’s just a technique or a couple things here or there that we didn’t follow through with on the play,”
That’s a pretty mild way to describe a game in which Denver never came close to looking competitive. The Broncos were beaten in every phase, and the loss went well beyond a few missed details.
The biggest mess came with the ball security. Denver had three fumbles, though Nix was responsible for only one of them. That kind of carelessness has not been part of his profile, even when he was a rookie and looked overwhelmed at times.
