Bo Nix is not planning to take the easy way out after his ankle injury.
The Denver Broncos quarterback said Saturday that he will not be backing off his running game, despite the surgically repaired ankle that sent shockwaves through the NFL when the news first broke. Nix has worked through his recovery, the Broncos are back on the practice field for training camp, and there has been no sign that he’s operating with restrictions.
Asked whether he’ll run less after the injury, Nix answered plainly: “Absolutely not”

That matters because his off-schedule ability has always been a major part of what makes him dangerous. Nix can win from the pocket, sure, but he also creates plays when things break down, and he throws on the move better than most quarterbacks in the league. Take that away, and he becomes a very different player.
There’s real evidence of how much that element has meant to Denver. Nix was the Broncos’ leading rusher in the Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills. During the regular season, he had a big run that helped set up a game-winning field goal against the Houston Texans, and he also scored a go-ahead touchdown run against the New York Giants a few weeks earlier.
So while some around the league may have wondered whether the ankle would change how he plays, Nix is making it clear that part of his game is staying put. And with the Broncos adding more weapons this offseason, his ability to extend plays and threaten defenses with his legs gives Denver another layer to work with.
