Josh Allen gave Bills fans a scare late in the first half against the Browns on Sunday, limping off the field after what looked like a tweak to his right foot. For a moment, it felt like the air had been sucked out of the stadium - and possibly Buffalo’s playoff hopes along with it. But after a quick trip for X-rays at halftime, Allen returned to the field without missing a snap, easing some of that tension.
On Monday, head coach Sean McDermott offered a bit more clarity. Allen is officially day-to-day with the foot injury, but the tone from McDermott was far from panicked.
When asked if the quarterback would be good to go for Sunday’s pivotal matchup against the Eagles, McDermott responded, “Yes, as far as I’m aware of.” That’s as reassuring as it gets this time of year.
There’s no additional testing scheduled for Allen’s foot, which is another positive sign. While he’s still dealing with some soreness, there have been no setbacks since the game - a key detail with Week 17 looming.
Allen’s stat line on Sunday wasn’t exactly headline material: 12-of-19 for 130 yards and no passing touchdowns. It was a quiet outing by his standards, but make no mistake - the Bills need him on the field, especially with the postseason picture still taking shape. His presence alone changes the dynamic of Buffalo’s offense, and even at less than 100%, Allen brings a level of playmaking ability that few quarterbacks in the league can match.
The Eagles are coming to town this weekend, and it's a game with serious implications. Whether it’s for seeding, momentum, or just proving they can hang with the NFC’s elite, the Bills will want No. 17 under center. And right now, all signs point to that being the case.
