Thomas Harley didn’t wait for the horn to beat the clock Saturday night.
With 0.2 seconds left in the first period, the Dallas defenseman snapped in his first goal of the season and pushed the Stars to a 2-0 lead on the way to a 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at American Airlines Center. It was Harley’s first goal since March 14, ending a 13-game stretch without one in which he had collected five assists.
The sequence was as fast as it was decisive. Arttu Hyry missed on a shot from the right side, the puck wrapped around the boards, and Harley picked it up on the left half wall with time nearly gone. He let it go immediately, and the puck slipped through Jet Greaves’ right skate and the near post.
“It’s a good thing I didn’t shoot it point-three seconds later, I guess,” Harley said. “I just know time’s ticking down. There’s no play but fire it at the net, and it went in, thank goodness.”
Hyry and Miro Heiskanen got the assists on the goal. For Heiskanen, it was the 356th point of his career, moving him past Risto Siltanen for fourth among Finnish defensemen in NHL history.
Dallas had already struck first at 2:16 of the opening period, when Mikko Rantanen scored on the power play off a backhand feed from Wyatt Johnston. That was enough cushion for most of the night, because the Stars didn’t score again until Hyry’s empty-net goal with 0.3 seconds left.
Columbus made Dallas work for it. The Blue Jackets outshot the Stars 25-17, outhit them 33-10 and won 30 of 50 faceoffs. They got on the board once in the third period and kept pushing for the equalizer before Hyry sealed it.
“They’re a good team,” Harley said of Columbus. “They defend well.
They work hard. They forecheck hard.
They don’t really give up much. Kind of an ugly game tonight but came out on top.”
The Blue Jackets arrived at 5-6-0 after a 3-2 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes two nights earlier, and the defeat in Dallas made it two straight losses.
Harley skated on the second pair with Nils Lundkvist. He came in averaging 24:55 of ice time per game, second on the Stars behind Heiskanen. Drafted 18th overall in 2019, Harley now has one goal and five assists through 14 games.
Jake Oettinger stopped 24 shots for Dallas, which snapped a two-game losing streak and finished its six-game homestand at 4-2-0. The Stars are now 8-5-1.

Stars Fans Already Have A New Neon Green Debate On Their Hands
The NHLs official Hometown Remix jersey rollout gave Dallas fans another look at how the franchise is leaning into a familiar visual identity, with the Stars once again folding neon green into the mix. The design pairs a white base with black sleeves and a bright accent color that has shown up often in the teams recent looks, which makes the release feel less like a departure and more like the latest chapter in a long-running style conversation.
Sportsnets early reaction only added to the debate, placing the sweater near the bottom of its leaguewide rankings and pointing to the Stars continued reliance on that neon shade. For a fan base that has strong opinions about the clubs historical jersey designs, this one is likely to spark the usual split between those who want something bolder and those who have seen enough of the green already.
