Stars Turn To Two Unproven Forwards With Lineup Suddenly Thin

The Dallas Stars are shaking up their roster by calling up Dylan Hryckowian and Matthew Seminoff to potentially make their NHL debuts against the Islanders.

The Dallas Stars are giving two Texas Stars forwards a look ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the New York Islanders.

Dylan Hryckowian and Matthew Seminoff were recalled to the NHL club, and it marks the first regular-season call-up for each player. Both could be in line to dress Sunday, with Sam Steel expected to sit out and David Perron listed as questionable, according to Owen Newkirk of DLLS Sports.

Both forwards have been driving the Texas offense early this season. Hryckowian sits second on the team in scoring with eight points, while Seminoff is right behind him with seven. Each has been producing at a point-per-game clip.

Hryckowian’s start builds on the momentum he carried into pro hockey after finishing his junior year at Northeastern University. He put up nine points in his first 17 games as a pro, counting the AHL regular season and postseason, after closing out his college season with 37 points in 30 games. Across all three seasons at Northeastern, he scored at or better than a point per game.

At 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, Hryckowian has had to win with pace and power rather than size. His game is built on strong skating and quick bursts, and that profile points toward a high-energy, gritty NHL forward. There’s also a possible family twist here: his first chance could come alongside his older brother and Stars teammate, Justin Hryckowian, who has no scoring through 10 games this season.

Seminoff’s route has been longer. He’s been in the pro ranks since the 2023-24 season, and his first AHL campaign was a grind: just 15 points in 70 games after a productive WHL career. The struggles carried into his second season, which led to a short stint in the ECHL that appears to have sparked him.

He took off in the 2025-26 season, finishing second on Texas with 24 goals and 50 points in 72 games. That scoring touch has carried over into the opening stretch of this year, enough for Dallas to bring him up and see what he can do at the NHL level. If he makes his debut, he will become the 39th skater with ECHL experience to play in the NHL this season.

Stars Poured It On In A Win Dallas Fans Will Relish

The Stars turned a loose, up-and-down night into one their fans could enjoy, beating the Islanders 6-3 behind a burst of offense from the top half of the lineup and a feel-good contribution from a couple of lesser-known names. Jason Robertson led the way with two goals, while Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston each chipped in with a goal and an assist as Dallas kept finding answers whenever New York tried to make it interesting.

There was also a family subplot on the scoresheet, with Justin Hryckowian scoring his first goal of the season while his brother Dylan made his NHL debut for Dallas. It was the kind of game that gave the building a little bit of everything, from star power to a milestone moment, and it came with the kind of backdrop that made the night feel even more familiar to longtime Stars followers. Stars Exposed A Late-Game Problem The Islanders Couldnt Survive

The Islanders hung with Dallas through two periods in a game that kept swinging back and forth, but the third period brought the kind of breakdown that cant happen against a team with the Stars finish. After trading chances and staying level at 3-3, New York watched Dallas pull away with three unanswered goals, turning a competitive night into a frustrating 6-3 loss that left the Islanders staring at the details they could not quite clean up.

Pete DeBoer and his players pointed back to the same problem afterward: the mistakes that piled up once the game tightened. Against strong opponents, the margin is slim enough already, and the Islanders know they have to be better about limiting breakdowns when the pace picks up. What stood out most from this one was how exposed they looked in transition, a reminder that one messy stretch can undo everything that came before it. [Read more 🡒]

Stars Are Starting To Look Like Something Much More Serious

By the end of Week 4, the Stars had pushed themselves into the kind of early-season rhythm that gets attention around the league. A five-game winning streak is one thing, but it is the way Dallas has been stacking those wins that makes the start look more meaningful, with the group showing real balance at both ends of the ice and looking increasingly hard to play against.

For a team that has spent the opening month making every shift feel purposeful, the next stretch will say plenty about whether this is just a hot run or something sturdier. The Stars have given themselves a strong platform, and in a conference race where other clubs are still sorting out consistency, Dallas is starting to look like a team with a much clearer identity than most teams can claim this early.
