The NHL is headed back to Texas for another outdoor showdown - and this time, it’s bringing the spectacle to one of the grandest stages in American sports.
Vegas Golden Knights to Face Dallas Stars at AT&T Stadium in 2027 Stadium Series
The league announced that the 2027 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will feature the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Dallas Stars at AT&T Stadium, the iconic home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Mark your calendars: puck drops on February 20, 2027, with primetime coverage on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
This won’t be the first time hockey goes outdoors in the Lone Star State, but it will be the biggest stage yet. Back in 2020, the Stars hosted the Nashville Predators at the Cotton Bowl in the Winter Classic, skating to a 4-2 win in front of a massive crowd of 85,630 - one of the largest in NHL history. Now, they’ll bring the outdoor magic indoors-out - under the retractable roof of AT&T Stadium, a venue that’s no stranger to the spotlight.
As for the matchup, it’s a compelling one between two franchises that have made serious noise in recent years.
Vegas, the NHL’s most successful expansion team in modern history, is no stranger to the big stage. In just eight seasons, the Golden Knights have already reached the Stanley Cup Final twice - first in their jaw-dropping inaugural season in 2017-18, and again in 2023, when they captured their first championship.
This will be Vegas’ third outdoor appearance. The last time they skated under the open sky, they were blanked 3-0 by the Seattle Kraken in the 2024 Winter Classic.
Before that, they dropped a tight 3-2 contest to the Avalanche at Lake Tahoe in 2021.
Dallas, meanwhile, has been a model of consistency in the Western Conference. Over the past seven seasons, the Stars have punched their ticket to the playoffs six times, reaching the conference final on three occasions and making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020. They’ve built a strong, resilient core - one that’s remained competitive year after year, and one that’s earned the right to host another marquee event.
And what a venue they’ll be skating in. AT&T Stadium, which opened in 2009, is a modern colossus - a 100,000-seat cathedral that’s played host to everything from Super Bowl XLV to the College Football Playoff National Championship, WrestleMania, and even future FIFA World Cup matches. Now, it’s hockey’s turn to take center stage.
Before we get to 2027, though, there’s still one more Stadium Series game on the horizon. This Sunday, the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning will face off in Tampa in the 2026 edition.
But looking ahead, there’s no doubt that the 2027 Stadium Series is shaping up to be a must-watch event. Two powerhouse teams, one epic venue, and the unique energy that only outdoor hockey can deliver - everything’s bigger in Texas, and this game is no exception.
