The Dallas Stars’ beloved ’99 sweater is back for another run, and the team has now mapped out 10 games for the alternate that brought the 1999 Stanley Cup look roaring back into the spotlight.
This is the black jersey that replaced the blackout design with the heavier neon-green city-light feel. When it first hit the market at the end of 2025, it moved more units than any other jersey at launch, then needed until March to be restocked after the initial rush.
Dallas also made the call to wear it in the playoffs last season, even though that run ended after just three home games against the Wild in the first round. The team’s postseason result didn’t slow down the jersey’s reputation, though. Around the league, it was still viewed as one of the best looks on the ice last season, and it marked the first time since the Victory Green era began in 2013 that the Stars chose an alternate for playoff use.
Ten appearances might not sound like much for a jersey this popular, but Dallas is balancing it against two more new looks this season. One comes from the league-wide City launch, and the other is tied to the Stadium Series game in February.
That Stadium Series jersey figures to get a few more outings afterward, too. Teams usually wear that special design twice more at home after the big event, and Dallas followed that same pattern after the Winter Classic by using that jersey twice again. The City-inspired sweater is still a bit of a mystery league-wide, with no clear picture yet on how often teams will wear it or whether every club will get both home and white versions.
For now, though, the ’99 look is back on the calendar, and Dallas has already let everyone know it’s ready to roll.

Stars Lose A Goalie Depth Piece Right Before Opening Night
Waivers got busy across the league just as teams were trimming their rosters for opening night, and the Stars were not immune. The New Jersey Devils claimed goalie Remi Poirier from Dallas, while the St. Louis Blues took defenseman Justin Barron off waivers from Nashville and the Predators also placed Ilya Lyubushkin and Nick Perbix on waivers ahead of the regular season.
For Dallas, the move chips away at a bit of organizational depth in goal before the schedule even starts, especially after Poirier spent last season building his case in Texas. He had not yet reached the NHL level, but his work with the AHL club had given the Stars another option in the pipeline, and now that option belongs to New Jersey as the roster crunch tightens.
