Dallas Stars' goalie Jake Oettinger is turning heads as the NHL’s Second Star of the Week, and for good reason. Oettinger posted a flawless 3-0-0 record, boasting a stellar 1.65 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage.
His outstanding play has been crucial in propelling the Stars (42-14-10, 94 points) to a franchise-record-tying 15-game point streak since January 23 (14-0-1). This run has brought them tantalizingly close to the Colorado Avalanche (44-12-9, 97 points) in the heated race for the Presidents’ Trophy.
Oettinger was a fortress in net, stopping 26 of 27 shots in a tight 2-1 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights on March 10. He followed that up with a 30-save performance in a commanding 7-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on March 12. To cap off the week, he made 22 critical saves in a nail-biting 3-2 overtime triumph against the Detroit Red Wings on March 14.
The 27-year-old netminder is riding a personal 12-game point streak dating back to January 20 (11-0-1). He’s been a rock for the Stars, ranking third in the NHL with 28 wins in 43 appearances this season (28-10-5, 2.62 GAA, .900 SV%, 2 shutouts). Oettinger’s consistency and clutch performances are making waves, and if he keeps this up, the rest of the league better watch out.
