Dallas Stars GM Stuns Fans with Bold Words on Jason Robertson's Future

As the Dallas Stars navigate a playoff push, GM Jim Nill remains optimistic about securing a future with star winger Jason Robertson, despite looming cap constraints.

The Dallas Stars are lighting up the Western Conference, and a huge part of their success is thanks to the dynamic winger, Jason Robertson. This season has been pivotal for Robertson as he approaches restricted free agency this summer, making his performance all the more significant.

The Stars' front office, led by GM Jim Nill, has been in talks with Robertson about a new contract. While they haven't sealed the deal yet, Nill remains optimistic. Ahead of their matchup against the Utah Mammoth, Nill shared his thoughts on Robertson's future in Dallas.

“We started discussions with Jason last summer, so we've kept in touch. In the end, we decided, let's table this.

Let's go have a good year, let's have a good playoffs, and we'll make this work,” Nill said on NHL Network. “He's a big part of our team.

He's one of the leading scorers in the league… A priority for us is to get him signed this summer.”

It's no wonder Nill is keen on keeping Robertson around. The 26-year-old is leading the Stars with 36 goals and 79 points over 66 games.

He's also etched his name in the history books as the first Dallas Stars player to hit 100 points in a single season. With at least 35 goals in four of the last five seasons, his consistency is undeniable.

However, the path to re-signing Robertson isn't without its hurdles. Dallas is looking at less than $15 million in cap space, and Robertson's new contract could take a hefty chunk of that. The Stars will need to weigh the benefits of signing him against the possibility of trading him to free up cap space and gain assets.

For now, the spotlight is on the ice. Robertson and the Stars are on a strong trajectory toward the Stanley Cup Playoffs, aiming for their first championship since 1999. Contract negotiations can wait until after they make their playoff push.
