Utah Jazz Linked to Lakers Star Austin Reaves in Offseason Move

The Utah Jazz are eyeing a potential game-changer as they express interest in acquiring Austin Reaves, who is set to become a free agent and is key to both their and the Lakers' future plans.

The Utah Jazz have their sights set on Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves, as reported by NBA insider Eric Pincus. With Reaves expected to decline his player option for the 2026-27 season, he'll be entering unrestricted free agency, making him a hot commodity this offseason.

The Jazz, who recently acquired Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Memphis Grizzlies at the trade deadline, are keen on building a formidable squad around their young core, which includes Jackson Jr., Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, Ace Bailey, and Walker Kessler. Adding Reaves to this mix could elevate their game significantly.

Pincus notes, “I’ve heard that the Utah Jazz like Austin Reaves. I don’t think that’s a shock, but I’ve heard that that’s one of the teams that’s interested in Austin Reaves.”

Meanwhile, the Lakers are determined to retain Reaves, who has become an integral part of their lineup. His strong bond with Luka Dončić and head coach JJ Redick only strengthens their resolve.

Reaves has been vocal about his desire to remain with the Lakers, emphasizing his commitment to the team. However, the looming free agency of LeBron James, who shares a close relationship with Reaves, adds an element of uncertainty to the Lakers' future roster.

This season, Reaves has been a standout performer for the Lakers, posting impressive averages of 23.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. His shooting efficiency is notable, with a 49.5% field goal percentage, 37.3% from three-point range, and 87.6% from the free-throw line. As he approaches his 28th birthday, Reaves is eligible for a lucrative contract, whether it’s a five-year, $241 million deal with the Lakers or a four-year, $178.5 million offer from another team.

Despite the financial implications, Reaves remains focused on his current team. In a candid interview with ESPN, he shared, “I try not to think about it.

Honestly. I’ve said it a million times.

I want to be in L.A. I love it.

Even though the other extension was turned down, that doesn’t mean that I’m trying to go get a f-ing gigantic number that don’t make sense. I want to be here, I want to win.

I want to do everything that can help this organization be better.”

As the offseason approaches, all eyes will be on Reaves and the decisions that could shape the future of both the Jazz and the Lakers.
