Tarik Biberovic arrives in Dallas with the kind of shot that turns heads immediately, but the Mavericks aren’t handing him anything just because he can light it up from deep.
The 6-foot-7 wing was a deadeye for Fenerbahce last season, drilling 48.9 percent of his 3-point attempts in the BSL. That kind of number makes him impossible to ignore.
He can punish defenses off the catch, stay calm when a closeout is flying at him, and he’s just as dangerous coming off screens. Leave him space, and he can make a defense pay fast.
But Biberovic knows the league asks for more than a clean jumper.
Before the team headed to Macao, China, he made it clear that his NBA future will depend on adding layers to his game. He said, "Everybody knows that I came here as a shooter, but to stay on the court, you have to do multiple things," Biberovic said.
"Obviously, it's an everyday fight. Like, we're here together to make each other better, but still, you're competing every single day."
That mindset matters. He also said he wants to bring physicality, strong defensive rebounding, energy, and high basketball IQ, and that gives him a real path to carving out minutes if he delivers on it.
Defense may be the biggest swing skill. Dusty May has already said Biberovic has been better than expected on that end in training camp, which is a promising sign.
He has the frame and strength to guard up when needed, and he already plays with a level of physicality that should help him. The tougher assignment will be handling perimeter matchups, especially after some past trouble in isolation and while navigating screens.
That’s where the rest of the roster can help. Playing alongside elite defensive talents such as Cooper Flagg, Morez Johnson Jr., and Dereck Lively II should make life easier when Biberovic gets put on an island and has to survive one-on-one.
If he can hold his own defensively, the picture gets a lot clearer. He has the size and shooting to develop into a solid 3-and-D option, but his value won’t stop there.
His emphasis on energy, smart play, and physicality should show up everywhere. Crashing the glass, competing on the defensive end, and bringing the kind of effort that doesn’t let up - those are the traits that can keep him on the floor. His off-ball movement already gives the offense a useful jolt, and his feel for when to cut or slide into open space on the perimeter can help keep things flowing.
So while Biberovic’s shot is the headline, it’s not the whole story. For his rookie season with the Mavericks, the real test is whether he can prove he’s more than a floor-spacer and make himself impossible to take off the court.

Kyrie Irvings Mavericks Return May Come Sooner Than Fans Expected
Kyrie Irvings road back to the Mavericks has moved into its final stretch, and the timing looks a little earlier than some fans may have assumed. After recovering from a torn ACL, Irving has been cleared to return to NBA play and has already been practicing since training camp, putting him back in the mix as Dallas gets ready to unveil a revamped roster.
Coach Dusty May has suggested Irving could rejoin the group during the NBA China Games 2026, with a matchup against the Houston Rockets mentioned as a possibility. The only remaining question is how Dallas manages that return across the two-game trip, a detail that should matter to the Mavericks as they balance caution with the appeal of getting one of their best players back in a meaningful setting. Jason Kidd's Next Move After Dallas Exit Will Divide Mavericks Fans
Jason Kidds time away from the Mavericks may not last long. According to a report from Marc Stein, the former Dallas coach is in advanced talks to join ESPNs NBA studio coverage, a move that would quickly put one of the most recognizable figures from the franchises recent past back in the league spotlight. For a fan base that spent years watching him navigate the sideline in Dallas, the idea of Kidd turning up in a broadcast chair is already the kind of development that invites a strong reaction.
The surprise is not just the destination, but the fit. Kidds run with the Mavericks left behind plenty of opinions about his coaching style, his personality and the way he carried himself in the job, which is why the notion of him becoming a public-facing analyst is drawing such divided reactions. There is no confirmation of the hiring or a clear picture of what ESPN would want him to do, but the possibility alone is enough to reopen old debates around how much of Kidds appeal would translate from the bench to the studio. Luka Addresses The Lakers What-If Fans Still Can't Shake
Luka Doncic spent only a brief stretch alongside LeBron James after arriving in a February 2025 trade, and the overlap never quite became the sort of partnership Lakers fans had imagined. Doncic recently addressed that short-lived pairing, showing respect for James while acknowledging how much injuries and the calendar kept them from getting the kind of run together that usually turns big-name talent into a true contender.
For a fan base still wondering what might have been, the lingering issue is less about chemistry than opportunity. Doncic made clear there was never any tension between them, just not enough practice or time to build something lasting, and James has since moved on to Philadelphia, leaving Doncic as the face of the Lakers with the question of that missed window still hanging in the background.
