Steph Curry Pays Tribute to Legends with Sneaker Choices on Christmas Day
Steph Curry didn’t just show up for the Warriors on Christmas Day-he made a statement before the game even tipped off. The two-time MVP walked into Chase Center wearing a pair of sneakers that carried more than just style-they carried history.
Curry laced up a rare pair of Reebok Question “Yellow Toe” sneakers, a player-exclusive edition once worn by Kobe Bryant during his sneaker free agency stretch in the early 2000s. That’s right-these were Allen Iverson’s iconic kicks, reimagined in a Lakers-inspired colorway for Kobe, back when he was testing the waters of the sneaker world between 2002 and 2003.
The “Yellow Toe” Questions are a blend of two basketball icons-Iverson’s unmistakable silhouette and Kobe’s unmistakable flair. The shoe features the classic white upper of the Question, accented with bold yellow hits on the toe cap, heel, and outsole-a nod to the Black Mamba’s signature palette.
It’s a fitting tribute from Curry, who’s no stranger to sneaker culture himself. For over a decade, he was the face of Under Armour Basketball, but that chapter closed on November 13 when the brand officially announced the end of their long-standing partnership. Since then, Curry’s been stepping out in a rotating lineup of some of the most iconic and buzzworthy sneakers in the game.
Just a couple of weeks ago, he was spotted wearing Anthony Edwards’ AE 2s during a matchup against the Timberwolves. Now, on the league’s biggest regular-season stage-Christmas Day-he’s using his feet to tell stories of basketball legacy.
But Curry wasn’t done honoring the past.
Curry Salutes Klay Thompson with On-Court Nod
When warmups rolled around, Curry switched things up again-this time, with a heartfelt tribute to one of his closest teammates and friends: Klay Thompson.
Curry hit the floor in the Anta KT 11s, Thompson’s signature shoe. It was a subtle but powerful gesture of respect for the fellow Splash Brother, who spent more than a decade alongside Curry in Golden State. Together, they helped bring four championships to the Bay and redefined what it meant to be a backcourt duo in the modern NBA.
Their run was historic, but time has a way of reshaping even the most iconic partnerships. Thompson’s role with the Warriors began to shift, and in July 2024, he made the difficult decision to leave the only NBA team he’d ever known. He signed with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency, joining forces with Luka Dončić and helping lead the team to the 2024 NBA Finals.
Since then, the Mavericks have undergone a transformation of their own. Dončić was traded to the Lakers earlier this year, leaving Thompson to take on a leadership role alongside rookie phenom Cooper Flagg and 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis.
So when Curry laced up Klay’s sneakers on Christmas Day-against Thompson’s new team, no less-it was more than a fashion choice. It was a moment of recognition, a reminder of the bond they built, and a salute to the journey they’ve both taken since those championship years.
For a player like Curry, who’s always been about more than just buckets, these kinds of moments speak volumes. Whether it’s honoring Kobe and Iverson with a throwback pair of Questions or showing love to Klay with the KT 11s, Curry continues to use his platform-and his sneakers-to celebrate the game’s past, present, and future.
