Brandon Williams made a noticeable impact in his return to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup after clearing concussion protocol. His presence was felt immediately in Wednesday night's thrilling 142-135 overtime clash against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena.
After missing the last three games, Williams stepped back onto the court with authority, contributing 11 points, 6 assists, and 2 rebounds in just 19 minutes off the bench. His teammates couldn’t help but acknowledge the difference he made.
P.J. Washington highlighted just how vital Williams is to the team.
“His pace,” Washington emphasized. “We missed his pace, his quickness, his ability to get downhill, find others, and score.
He was himself tonight. He’s just happy to be back, and we’re happy for him too.
He’s just being himself and being the great player he is.”
Cooper Flagg also noted Williams’s influence, particularly in the Mavericks' ball-handling efficiency. With Williams back, Dallas committed only four turnovers, a stark contrast to the 21 they racked up against Golden State on Monday.
“Brandon Williams coming back obviously helps with that, having the extra ball-handling out there,” Flagg said. “It was just a much better job of getting everybody organized and getting into our spacing.”
This season, Williams has been averaging 12.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists over 60 games. His contract, which became fully guaranteed in January, reflects his value to the team. As he approaches unrestricted free agency this summer, his performance continues to speak volumes.
Looking ahead, Williams isn’t listed on Friday’s injury report as the Mavericks prepare to face the Portland Trail Blazers. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT at the Moda Center, and with Williams back in the mix, Dallas fans have every reason to be optimistic.
