The Dallas Mavericks look set to go back to a familiar look for 2026-27, with a leaked rumor pointing to the return of the gold and white “pegasus” City Edition jerseys.
NBA Uniform Tracker on X backed up the earlier report, saying Dallas is expected to revive the design for the 10th anniversary of the NBA’s City Edition concept with Nike and the league. The first version of the rumor said the uniforms would echo the ones the Mavericks wore during the COVID-impacted 2020 season.
That would mark a sharp turn from last season’s City Edition setup, which flipped the palette into a dark charcoal gray look with shiny blue striping based on the original Pegasus design. The NBA’s launch of that uniform leaned hard into Dallas’ nickname and the city’s history, noting, “Dallas’ nickname, 'Pegasus City,' didn’t come out of nowhere," and explaining the red neon Pegasus that was installed in 1934 and became a downtown symbol of hope, progress and energy.
The league also described the 2025-26 look this way: “The 2025-26 Mavericks city edition honors that legacy. Neon-blue wings soar across a black sky, while 'Dallas' appears in classic Greek type - a tribute to Pegasus and the city’s spirit on game night.”
If this leak holds, fans will be getting a return to the white-and-gold version many still associate with Luka Doncic. The reaction around the idea has also started to shift toward what Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg would look like in that aesthetic.
BasketballJerseyArchive.com, which cited the leak, said Dallas will also be among the teams wearing iridescent Nike swooshes on the front of its City Edition uniforms as part of the NBA’s 10-year celebration of the program in 2026-27.
The Pegasus look has generally landed better than some of the Mavericks’ other City Edition attempts, including the graffiti-inspired neon design from 2019-20, which drew much less affection. The Pegasus jerseys first arrived in the 2020-21 season and have remained one of the franchise’s more admired alternate uniforms.
There’s also a new uniform detail coming this season: Dallas will debut its partnership with JPMorganChase through a uniform advertising patch. The Chase logo will appear across the Association, Icon, Statement and City Edition jerseys, in blue or white depending on the base color.
That patch will sit with the slogan “Legacy is Everything” below a Dallas skyline silhouette near the distributor’s patch. Early fan reaction to the possible return of the gold-and-white look, though, hasn’t exactly been glowing.
