Mark Cuban Reveals Regret Over Mavericks Sale

Mark Cuban critiques the new ownership of the Mavericks, reflecting on past decisions and hoping for future improvements under the Adelson family's management.

The Dallas Mavericks have long been a fixture in the NBA postseason, with legends like Dirk Nowitzki and Luka Doncic leading the charge. However, recent seasons have seen a shift.

Despite having rising star Cooper Flagg, the team struggles with Kyrie Irving's injury woes and the trade of Anthony Davis. Adding to the complexity, Mark Cuban's decision to sell the franchise to the Adelson family has come under scrutiny.

Cuban’s Frustration with New Ownership

Mark Cuban, the former majority owner, hasn't shied away from expressing his dissatisfaction with the current direction under the Adelson family. Reflecting on his tenure, Cuban admitted there were missteps, such as hiring Nico Harrison. Yet, his latest comments mark the first time he's openly criticized the new ownership.

Speaking candidly on Intersections The Podcast, Cuban shared, "I do not regret selling. I regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I'll leave it at that."

The decision to sell, especially after reaching the NBA Finals with Doncic, puzzled many. Cuban explained that his motivations were deeply personal. Concerned about the emotional toll of ownership and the impact on his children, he chose to step away.

"It's a big emotional commitment. You hear the passion and everything.

Now, imagine going up and down like that every single game. That's hard.

My kids, they were coming at the age where they are coming of the mindset that they want to work at the Mavs. I did not want that for them.

It can be abusive, a lot. If fans don't like what you're doing or the team's not doing well.

You're the worst human being on the planet and they treat you that way," Cuban explained.

Typically, new NBA owners need a few years to make their mark. The Adelson family now faces the challenge of addressing the issues Cuban highlighted, aiming to guide Flagg and the Mavericks back to prominence. Their immediate focus will be on the remaining games of the season and preparing for the NBA Draft.
